Pregnancy weight gain 21 weeks

Hi!

I've just weighed myself for the first time and am at 21 weeks & 4 days. I am 5ft 9in and slim build. I have put on 16lbs. Does this sound normal? I thought it sounds quite a lot.

I know people say don't worry and just enjoy it but I am not like that and do not like to feel too overweight (especially with summer coming). I eat healthily and around 2000 calories per day. At weekends I pig out bc we go out for dinner a lot Grin (so I'm not obsessive Grin)

I just wanted to know the norm and everything online is contradictory.

Thanks!

I'm at exactly the same point, 21+4, and I've gained 7-8kg- fluctuates depending on day- so about the same. I gained most of it in the first trimester as I had to eat my way through morning sickness and then its started to balance out. I try not to worry about it because I know its probably above the recommended, but not excessively so.

Sorry meant to say, 7-8kg is about the same as 16lbs, maybe a little more.

Oh thank you! I try not to worry too much but I know I'll feel uncomfortable if I put too much on. I don't mind if it is the normal amount Smile

I understand. I've struggled with my weight and body image a lot for 10 years and its only in the past year I was able to get into a healthy mindset about it (so that I could concieve in fact), so seeing the scale creep back up isn't easy. My legs look very slim and I've had to buy my maternity wear on the small side but I think that's from losing muscle!

I found this article really helpful:
expectingscience.com/2017/11/14/five-little-known-facts-about-pregnancy-weight-gain/

It really highlights how much of the weight is fluid, and how much that varies between individuals.

I think that's why the NHS doesn't seem to have guidelines for each trimester - it just varies too much.
