EDD changing

I'm currently 11 weeks along with an ivf baby. As we've had ivf we're very accurate with the dates etc. Initial due date was 10th October but that has been brought forward to 7th October, they also said I was more far along than what I thought I was (i had 10 weeks down)

They also said to expect another change of due date at my official dating scan.

Is this common? I thought having ivf the dates were pretty accurate, I don't mind them changing and it was great to see baby being a little bit more advanced than I thought, I'm just confused why haha.

I should be 10 weeks but apparently I'm 11, and my "12 week scan" falls when I'm 14 weeks now. It's all confusing, happy to go with the flow but just wondering if it's a common thing?

Baby's scan yesterday showed a very active baby with hiccups and moving about all the time ❤️

I think, although you can be very sure about when the sperm was...er...’added’ (?) and probably are reasonably sure when you ovulated, eggs can take varying lengths of time to descend down the Fallopian tube and also implant, and it’s at the point of implantation that you are actually pregnant and from that point on, they develop in a fairly uniform way for the next few months. Therefore, it sounds like your egg descended/implanted quickly and is bigger than ‘average’ based on your insemination date.

I’m not IVF but know when I ovulated, which was on day 9 of my cycle (early compared to most I think) and my EDD was moved forwards a week at my 12 week scan. Just consider losing a week of pregnancy as a bonus! Who knows, baby may arrive on your original EDD anyway!

Although you know the time of fertilisation/insertion, and that this is a fairly good indication of implantation, all babies are different.

The dating scans are based on size. If your baby is slightly bigger than average then your date will be moved earlier; if your baby is slightly smaller then the date will be moved later.

I was very sure on my dates and my due date was put forward 4 days.. I think it's just the baby measuring bigger tbh

I’m also IVF and my viability scan at 6+6 was exactly spot on when they measured the foetuses. Unlike natural conception or IVI, with IVF you can date not only from date of conception but can also use calculators that allow you to input whether it was a fresh or frozen cycle and how many days post fertilisation the embryo’s were at transfer.

My midwife at my booking appointment was trying to change my dates by 3 days to suit her ‘conception wheel’ calculation, I just repeated my dates and she wrote down the dates I gave (3rd October as due date) on my notes. If they try to change things at my scan I will ignore them as well!!

hi OP, they shouldn't really change your due date if its an IVF pregnancy regardless of their measurements. Our local hospital will work from the IVF date as unlike non-assisted conception, you know the date accurately. The baby is still really small at 12 weeks so there is definitely room for some error when taking measurements.

I also had IVF. At my 12 week scan I was measuring 3 days ahead, however they didn't alter my due date as with IVF I was certain it was correct.
