22 weeks and not as much as a flutter yet

Every link I find when googling this is full of people saying "I had flutters from 16 weeks but no definite movement yet" but I've not even felt a flutter. Please don't comment if you had felt something by now, has anyone felt absolutely nothing not even a flutter by this stage? It's beginning to upset me. I do have a partially anterior placenta but that's what I'm googling and most people with the same had felt flutters by now.

There are stories of women who get to full term and don't even realise they are pregnant. I guess it's to do with where the baby is etc.

If you are worried go and see the doctor just for peace of mind.

With my first pregnancy I didn’t feel anything til about 24/25 weeks! I remember going to the hospital over something and the midwife seen a kick on my belly at 25 weeks but I didn’t even feel that, sometimes if you have strong stomach muscles it can stop you feeling them as much (so i was told).

I wouldn’t worry but if you are concerned you could go to be checked!

Winterfellismyhome · 17/03/2019 15:03

I first felt baby at 25 weeks but i am fat so that may have played a part

Nobhobs · 17/03/2019 20:07

I'm size 6 and very petite so thought I'd feel something. No flutters, bubbles, absolutely nothing. They've said to phone next Monday if I still don't feel anything but I'm so worried in the meantime.

Where was your placenta on the 20w scan? If it’s at the front - anterior - it acts like a cushion and stops you feeling so many kicks.

Nobhobs · 17/03/2019 20:13

@SandunesAndRainclouds Yes they said it was anterior but when I looked online most people with anterior placentas said they had atleast felt flutters by now so I'm just panicking over it Sad

My midwife told me this week that they aren't worried about movement or any sort of pattern to movements until 26 weeks.

Your placenta may still be the reason. Try not to Google too much.

mrsk28 · 17/03/2019 20:17

Took me a really long time to notice any flutters. Probably around 26/27 weeks until I was sure.

Before that all I felt was hunger pangs here and there and a friend told me that was probably flutters! I'm also a size 8 with a posterior placenta so think it just varies!

Heyha · 17/03/2019 20:18

Not me but my friend didn't feel anything til 23 weeks, she's getting plenty now it's started though! She thinks it was linked to her bump 'popping' out as she had been looking tiny up til then, baby well hidden in her pelvis.

Bunnybaubles · 17/03/2019 20:19

I have an anterior placenta and was told by both my midwife and consultant that it's normal not to feel anything at all until around 24 weeks.

Littlemissdaredevil · 17/03/2019 21:31

I was a size 8/10 before I got pregnant. I had an anterior placenta and I don’t remember feeling any kicks until 23 almost 24 weeks and even then it was very slight!

twoheaped · 17/03/2019 21:37

24 weeks for me, she was a back to back baby.
It was my 2nd pregnancy when I actually found out what "normal" kicks were like.

FramptonRose · 17/03/2019 21:51

I had an anterior placenta with my second pregnant and honestly did not feel a thing until about 26/27 weeks!

I was actually really scared going into the 20 week scan as I convinced myself something was wrong as I felt my first so early on. I was reassured that it was the position of the placenta.

I am a size 8/10 so it was definitly the position of the placenta.

Try not to worry and stop googling, I know it's easier said than done x

Thank you for all the replies. Trying to be patient but finding it so hard to stop worrying!

Anterior placenta really does make so much difference. I felt flutters with my first at 13 weeks. My second had an anterior placenta and I thought I felt something at 18 weeks but then nothing at all was convinced something had happened when I went for the 20 week scan but she was fine. I found the second pregnancy so stressful, I hardly felt anything.

TokenGinger · 20/03/2019 15:31

Hi, OP. I'm a first time mum and currently 28+5. I didn't feel anything until about 25 weeks and even then, it was one swift kick and nothing else for a good few days.

I was really panicked because people kept saying I should have felt him by then, but I felt him in his own time.

I also have an anterior placenta which contributes.

Even at almost 29 weeks, I don't feel him all that often. I'll get four or five nudges in a row maybe 2-3 times a day where he must be making himself comfortable, but definitely nothing groundbreaking. I've been assured he is perfectly fine.

Foodie68 · 20/03/2019 15:51

@nobhobs I feel the same as you. I’m currently 19 weeks also with anterior placenta and have felt nothing. I’m trying not to be anxious although it’s hard, my belly is getting bigger though so that must be a good sign!

purplemama1990 · 21/03/2019 10:03

Both my sister and sister in law had anterior placentas and they both said they didn't feel movement or flutters even or anything until around 24 weeks. So don't worry! Also, one of my cousins said she never felt any real movement throughout her entire pregnancy, and only started feeling flutters quite late on around 28 weeks, and even then it wasn't regular. Everyone is different, so don't worry so much about what you're reading online. As long as baby is developing fine according to ultrasounds and hearing doppler heartbeats etc, feeling movement isn't the same for everyone.

OneMoreWish · 21/03/2019 22:52

I had placenta at front with first baby - think I was six or six and half months pregnant before I felt anything I could confidently say was baby.

I used to cry as people kept asking/ assuming I could feel baby by then and I kept thinking people who can feel kicks know there baby is ok and alive but I don't have that reassurance.

I found it all particularly tough but eventually I did start to feel kicks. I never had full tummy rolls and feet / hands sticking out but near the end I definitely got lots of digs in my ribs!! I guess my placenta cushioned a lot.

I feel your pain but it is common with anterior placenta so don't panic . Hoping the weeks go by quickly for you and you start feeling kicks soon xxxx
