Amniotic liquid leaking?!

Apologies in advance for tmi, don’t read if you find these things gross!
I’m 25 weeks and I’ve been having an increased amount of discharge - but what worries me is how watery it is. Sometimes I’ll get up in the morning and have a 50p coin sized wet patch on my underwear, or throughout the day I’ll have an ever bigger wet area that doesn’t soak through to my clothes but the underwear is clearly wet not just damp.
I don’t think it’s urine as it’s clear (and sometimes there will be a more localised yellowish area in the middle of the patch, which is more obviously discharge/small urine leak).
I rang the maternity triage twice this week. They didn’t seem very worried and told me to lie down on my side then get up and see if I feel a gush, I haven’t felt anything. Also I reckon I’d be soaked wet in the morning after 8h in bed if that test was positive in my case...
But I’m still worried. Could this be really watery vaginal discharge? Could an amniotic liquid leak be really small and leak mainly during the day when I’m walking around?
Any ideas? What should I do? Thank you in advance.

If your worried definately speak to midwife, you can put a pad on and take it in for them to test or there are apparently things you can buy online to test if it is amniotic fluid.
But in my case ( I was paranoid I was having a slow leak) it was just a weak pelvic floor and still happens now ( 8 months later). Are you doing pelvic floor exercises?

Hi, not consistently no! Didn’t think that would make a leak happen though, what exactly is the leak then? Just from the outside of the sac?

They said to ring again if the panty liner was soaked through when I got up after two hours lying down on my left side. It’s not even wet but during the day it gets really wet so I’m unsure. I feel that if I ring again they’ll tell me that it’s nothing, and tell me not to go over.

I’ve got an appointment with the community midwife this week, I just don’t want to wait too long and then be told I was stupid to wait and that I put my baby at risk.

I’m 38 weeks and what you’re describing has been normal for me for ages. I think it’s just lots of increased watery discharge. I change a panty liner about twice a day and use another at night. It’s increased as the pregnancy has progressed. Obviously get it checked out but it sounds normal to me.

Thank you - I do have less of the usual thicker discharge so maybe it’s just gone more watery now. It’s my first pregnancy so it’s all very scary for me at the moment. I’ll see how I am tomorrow and if I feel like it’s making me too anxious I’ll get in touch with them again.
Can’t wait to be 38 weeks!

You may also want to get checked for thrush - my midwife told me it can present with non-standard symptoms during pregnancy - including increased watery discharge.

worriedaf · 15/03/2019 21:13

They did mention thrush but I thought it couldn’t be as it’s not itchy - I wish they’d just ask me to go in and check it properly! Thank you.

I had this with my second pregnancy. It really freaked me out as I didn't have anything like it with my first. I spoke to my midwife loads about it and she said that it was just increased discharge due to hormonal changes. Everything was fine with the pregnancy and I carried him until term. If you are really worried though bring it up again with your midwife or maternity triage. Always better to be safe

worriedaf · 15/03/2019 21:27

Thank you so much. I think I’ll go to the walk-in centre tomorrow and see if they can check me for thrush or at least give me a little more advice. I am slightly less worried since I’ve done the “lying on my side” test but I really want to have an answer because worrying can’t be good for me or the baby! It’d be fine if they said it is just hormonal, or thrush and I’d get it treated, but not knowing is really annoying.
Really appreciate everyone’s answers, thank you so much for your time. I’m going to bed now and will try and see what it’s like tomorrow morning when I get up, then probably go to the walk in centre just so I can enjoy the rest of my weekend without being worried sick. X

I had discharge like you are describing all through my first pregnancy. It was awful! I spent a fortune on pantyliners. Was very relieved when the same didn't happen with dd2. Obviously don't ignore it if you are worried but it does sound normal. The joys of pregnancy!

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 15/03/2019 21:31

If you can afford it I’d pay for a private scan and they can check your waters, it’s probably nothing but always worth it for peace of mind x

I had this (albeit much later at 39 weeks) and made DH take me to our birth centre. They checked me over and tested my pad and it wasn't amniotic fluid. I would get yourself checked out and/or get some amniosense liners from Boots.

worriedaf · 16/03/2019 07:49

I’ve had nothing leaking during the night so I don’t think this is amniotic fluid as it’s unlikely to stop but will go to the walk-in centre to try and get some thrush cream or at least some more advice.
Thank you everyone for your replies.

Update: the doctor tested my urine and I’ve got a UTI but none of the usual symptoms. Just picked up the antibiotics from the pharmacy, hopefully it’ll help. Thank you to everyone who replied.
