I just wanted to share my being induced story as I have read and heard lots of horror stories but had a really great experience and hopefully this can help alleviate someone’s anxiety around being induced!
I was induced last Thursday night as I’d been in and out with reduced movement with baby. I was nervous as didn’t know what to expect and he’s movement was reduced even when I was in hospital so was anxious about it but atleast he was on his way out now! His due date was 23rd March so just a few weeks early.
They put the pessary in for inducing on Thursday night around 8:30pm and within the hour the cramps and back pains started so I figured something was happening.
Was in and out of sleep you know what hospitals are like! Got some paracetamol around midnight, by around 3-4am the surges or contractions were stronger but I didn’t realise it was surges at the time as it’s my first. I had some codeine and then in the morning around 9am they put me on observations as baby and myself heart rate was scatty whole time we were there. The surges were coming in full swing but not consistent so they removed the pessary after checking cervix as it doesn’t always work for women. This part was painful I’ve got to admit and was in tears as I was contracting and they were literally in there digging around 🤦🏾♀️
Soon as they took the pessary out they took me down to delivery ward - I couldn’t even walk they got a chair and wheeled me down.
Soon as we were in there though and I got the gas and air I was ready for it! Amazing how much it helps! Turns out I was already 6cm dilated - you get ready to breathe the baby out at 10cm.
They broke my water shortly after and as soon as they broke them, the surges were intense & your body just tells you when you’re ready to bring baby out!
We went down to delivery ward around 12:30 and he was here by 2pm 💙 only gas and air and squatted him out!
I’d really recommend watching positive birth videos and vlogs on YouTube and keep the positive mindset around birth as people are quick to share horror stories but honestly it’s one of the most amazing experiences and you know your body better than anyone else.
I hope this helps anyone who may be being induced soon and if you have any questions feel free to DM!
