Carseats

Could you please link the car seats you have chosen and say why they are the one you went for? Things have changed a lot since we had dd over 5 years ago, and I'm feeling really overwhelmed by the choices available. We would rather not spend more than £250, but obviously want to choose something really safe for ds when he is born.

I'm not fussed about it connecting to our pram as I would rather have him in the cot part of the pram. In general I'm not able to carry him in the car seat due to health problems, so it doesn't have to be one with a handle.

Also, does anyone have any links to compare safety ratings of car seats? Is there somewhere that they have been tested and compared?

With dd we have always had recaro seats, but it seems they are phasing out the baby seats and Just have the ones for older children.

Help Please!

Joie 360 spin, been great and the rotating function is fab

Vaughn26 · 14/03/2019 11:03

We went for the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus as it had great safety reviews. The isofix base can be used for the next stage too, so will last us 5 years! Although pricey it’s worth investing in the best car seat you can afford within your budget.

Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus is best car seat on which. We are buying this one and although pricey with the isofix base it will last until they don’t need a car seat any longer.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 14/03/2019 11:34

If you don’t need it to be a carrier type then you are best getting something like a Joie 360 spin. It will go from newborn right up to around age 4 and can rear face until then too.

We had the Maxi Cosi Pebble first as I wanted to be able to carry it and put in on the pram. But then had the Joie 360 once DS was 1 and too big for the carrier.

It’s a great seat, really easy to use.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 14/03/2019 11:37

@Justanother123 it will last until 12kg or 75cm. My DS has grown out of it height wise by just after 1! After that if you want to use the same base you will have to buy the Pearl car seat, which can only forward face unless you got the more expensive 2 way family fix base.

I wish we had researched more as we fell into the maxi cosi trap of buying the normal family fix base and then finding at age 1 we had to buy a new seat and forward face him! We decided to ditch Maxi cosi and for the Joie 360 instead and it’s brilliant.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 14/03/2019 11:39

@Vaughn26 only if you got the more expensive 2 way family fix base. If you got the normal family fix one you would be very unwise to use it for the next stage as it would mean having to forward face way before the recommend age of 4.

Vaughn26 · 14/03/2019 11:45

Yes we purchased the 2 way fix!

WhenZogateSuperworm · 14/03/2019 11:46

@Vaughn26 that’s good then! I wish Maxi cosi would stop selling the other base as I’m sure it catches a lot of people out like it did us!

silvertongue · 14/03/2019 11:48

I got a britax babysafe carseat because it was one of the highest rated for safety while also having the least harmful flame retardants used on it. It was £60 on amazon, half price, didn't bother with the isofix base though because it'll be used in different cars.

Jelliestogether · 14/03/2019 11:48

We brought the cybex cloud z plus the 360 base (can't remember the proper name for the base) but it is over 250 for seat and base

Justanother123 · 14/03/2019 12:22

We’ve got the two way fix. I just like maxi cosi. This is baby 3 and they were my favourite for my older girls who are now teenagers 😊

Bambamber · 14/03/2019 17:28

For my daughter we got a recaro zero 1, and recently purchased a recaro zero 1 elite. My daughter is nearly 2 and still rear facing, and I have a bad back so having one that I can spin has been invaluable. We got the zero 1 elite this time so we can get the baby out of the car without waking them if we need to. It is very pricy though

Are great FB groups to join for all things car seat safety!

Ive got the maxi cosi pebble plus with the base but if money is tight you could get a joie juva (40 quid) which is really great safety wise and then save the money for an extended rear facing toddler/kid seat. The pebble has a deep seat so lasts ages, tbh you don't need the base it's just a convenience at this stage

It's best to have an infant seat rather than a birth - 4 years one as it's safer. The britax seat mentioned above is also a good budget seat .

I never really stick mine on the pram tbh so it's not super imortant to have one that is compatible.

The sweden test and the german adac tests are the most difficult safety tests to pass so any seat with good ratings on there will be good
