I'm 39 and I'm worried I'll be labelled old. Grin
Wanted this for ages so just praying to god it sticks and all is OK.
6 +3 and not enjoying the waiting game for a scan.
Would be nice to chat with people in a similar position.

Congratulations! I am 43 with a 13 month old. You are a spring chicken Smile. I tried for 8 years so wasn't my plan to be an geriatric mum!
Other than being consultant led and advised not to go over 40 weeks my age was barely mentioned.
Hope all goes smoothly for you.

I'm 38 and currently 7+6 with my first, and I'll turn 39 before my due date. I had an early scan at 6 weeks to rule out an ectopic, but the 12 week scan still seems very far away!

russiandwarf · 13/03/2019 21:37

Hi I'm also 39 and this will be my first too. I've had 2 early scans already as I just couldn't mentally make it to 12 weeks not knowing what was happening in there 😳 (currently almost 11 weeks, still no scan date though...)

Missbdhfc · 13/03/2019 21:42

How do you get early scan?

I'm 38 with my first- and only. 27+3 today. My age was mentioned in terms of genetic risk factors so I had the NIPT. Other than that though it hasn't been brought up at all and so far (touch wood) I've had an easier pregnancy than I could have ever imagined. I'll be almost 39 when I give birth.

katmarie · 13/03/2019 21:52

I'm 37 and 9 weeks exactly with number 2, number 1 is 14 months old. I'll be 38 when this one arrives and husband will be 40. It took me a long time to find the right partner to have a family with, which is why we're not waiting around now. I know a lot of people who are having kids at my age, my older sister had one at 40, my younger sister is expecting her second at 36. So to me it seems quite normal. No issues with my age so far, it wasn't even mentioned at my booking in.

Congratulations and good luck :)

katmarie · 13/03/2019 21:54

Re early scans, you can go private, lots of places do them. In our NHS trust the sex of the baby isn't told at the 20 week anomaly scan so there are a few companies in the area doing a range of pregnancy scans. I googled early scan and my town. (And then decided the money could be better spent elsewhere).

Rememberallball · 13/03/2019 23:42

I’m 47 and currently 10+6 with IVF twins and will turn 48 whenever they are 3 months old. Probably the oldest expectant mum on here!!

Because it’s an IVF pregnancy I had a viability scan at 6+6 which confirmed the twins. Generally EPAU clinics will only do scans if you have bleeding, are at risk of an ectopic or have a history of miscarriage. However, companies like Babybond/Ultrasound Direct or Window on the Womb, offer scans from as early as 6 weeks and charge about £90-100. You can sometimes get deals on Wowcher or Groupon to get scans for a lower price.

russiandwarf · 14/03/2019 10:27

Yes my scans were booked privately, sorry should have said. I agree money could probably be better spent elsewhere if you can wait but I had 2 MMC and a chemical pregnancy and was about to start IVF when I got a BFP. For my own mental well-being I could not make it to another 12 week scan and find out bad news, so that's why we paid for the scans. I'm just clarifying as it's not because of my age but because of my previous history that I did this. I'm sure the majority of people wait it out!

Woolly17 · 14/03/2019 11:12

I was already geriatric with my first at 39 and now well old at 41 with my second.
At 39 (ivf) my pregnancy was treated pretty normally but this time (surprise natural conception) I'm being referred to all sorts of specialist teams. Feel less sh*t than the last time as well.
Just waiting for the 12wk scan now. Fingers crossed it all goes well and there's a healthy little one on the inside.

Em39ma · 14/03/2019 12:35

I’m a geriatric mum. I’m 40, second pregnancy, first ending in a miscarriage last October.
I’ve been told I will be consultant lead, because of my age.

Melamine · 14/03/2019 13:45

I’m pretty much same age as you, 31 weeks tomorrow! My first earlier last year unfortunately ended in a MMC. I paid for a private scan at 7 weeks this time. Good luck!

Thecaravan · 14/03/2019 15:00

Same as @Woolly17! Had my first ivf baby at 39 and now 41 and 25 weeks pregnant with surprise natural pregnancy. Other than not going past 40 weeks was treated exactly the same as everyone else the first time and so far seems to be the same with this one. Good luck OP. Remember that although miscarriage is more common when you're older, the odds are still in your favour Flowers

jennny55 · 14/03/2019 16:25

I'm 37 with my first, I will be 38 when it's born, I'm currently 13 weeks 3 days. I've been with my husband for 20 years and married for 3 1/2. I've only been trying to get pregnant since we've been married. I've had 2 early miscarriages. My grandmother and sister tell me im OLD but no one else seems to think so. 35 is the new 20 :)

Megan2018 · 14/03/2019 16:28

14wks today with DC1 and a couple of weeks off turning 41.

I had NIPT and scan at 10+2 which was a big relief and also got to find out the sex.

Good luck!

Middlrm · 14/03/2019 16:32

I think 35 is geriatric ... got a 15 week old... bar being sick and exhausted ( which is apparently great for the baby ) had a rest book pregnancy , my blood pressure never waivers, no gestational diabetes, baby was very healthy and we had a excellent birth He was out within 13 hours of labour starting , both of us were chille dblood pressure wise ( though I was just focussing on the cup
Of tea once I got him out ) have a friend of the same age with a 4 week old. I
Think having babies in our 30’s and 40’s is becoming the new normal. Congratulations ladies may your pregnancies be as trouble free ( and perhaps sickness free as that was all day and night and just awful ) as possible ... rest now though they are total sleep
Thief’s !! But when they grin at you it’s totally worth it!! ❤️❤️❤️

TequilaMockingburd · 14/03/2019 20:01

45 and 30 weeks here. Not a person has mentioned age to me but there’s a 10 year gap between this baby and my DD and boy do I feel those years. Congratulations and enjoy your pregnancy

MrsRyan15 · 14/03/2019 21:31

Another geriatric first timer over here. I've just turned 38 and currently 20 weeks.

Glad to hear there are so many of us. DH keeps worrying that we're too old (I tell him that's rubbish!)

Spargle · 15/03/2019 12:18

I’m 37, and 26 weeks. Nobody has mentioned my age, which is nice. Will be 38 by the time this one is due (he’s banned from arriving the days before or after my birthday, and on the day itself, but I don’t know if he’s got that memo) - it would be fun to have him while I’m still 37, but I’m expecting him to stay in an extra two weeks, like his parents.

I had an early scan, just after 6 weeks, because of an expected ectopic (and possibly also a foreign trip - didn’t want to die of ectopic complications in Hungary, and maybe the doctor felt the same). It was a relief to see a baby in the right place!

Oh, and this one was conceived naturally, in the initial stages of preparing for IVF - bit of a surprise, but a very welcome one!

Doop · 16/03/2019 14:08

Im 38 next week and 8 weeks. I feel soooo old! Worried about everything that comes with older eggs!
