Not wanting healthy food

I am currently nearly 7 weeks pregnant but I have also been diagnosed with a mildly fatty liver so the doctor told me I need to lose a stone, obviously this is not really possible at this moment. I am only slightly overweight but with being pregnant I am worrying if this will cause me to have complications, the doctor isnt worried as it is only mild but it is bothering me so I'm wanting to eat just healthy foods, but the trouble is not only am I craving salty foods, i am suffering with nausea and the thought of salad and veg is just really off putting at the moment. Any one else been in a similar position? Did you find a way to tolerate the good stuff whilst feeling sick?

I'm fourteen weeks and the only form of healthy food I've managed is smoothies...
Possibly try one and see if they stay down? You can hide so much in them!

Thank you, that's a great idea actually 💕

I think there are apps which can be used for weight loss that take pregnancy into account so it isn't impossible to lose weight while pregnant. Most nb babies weigh between 6 and 9lb so if you are overweight then you could aim to stay at your current weight throughout the pregnancy and lose a bit once baby arrives. A fatty liver isn't a good thing and can cause serious problems down the line I think you should consider your doctors words very seriously.

SarahC240710 · 11/03/2019 21:19

It is only very mildly fatty liver and the doctor isnt concerned and said I can easily reverse it, he has just advised me to eat really healthy but yes I am taking it seriously. It was interesting as id never heard of it before but he said if you took 100 people off the street, 90 of them would have very mildly, it has def made me reevaluate my diet.

Do you have any cravings or are you just feeling sick in general. I find there's usually healthy options for the foods I'm craving... even if I don't always opt for them.

I crave sour sweets a lot, so try to eat apples and mango. Also, when I'm craving things like pizza, I try to make at home with lots of veggies.

When I was in first trimester, I ate a lot of microwaveable rice and mugs of peas 😂

I've been craving ready salted savoury things, like crisps and nuts but I haven't had any. Haven't been sick but feel just generally sickly and not felt like eating much, I can probably tackle fruit but not salad and veg at mo.

I couldn’t stand veg and salad when I was pregnant either. Just do your best, you can reverse the fatty liver later

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/03/2019 21:42

How would you feel about a smoothie?

Handful of oats, a banana, handful of frozen fruit, oat or dairy or other milk you like, whizz up. Really filling with the oats and not overly fruity. Or milk, banana, cocoa powder, peanut butter. The peanut butter can be a bit salty and will take the edge of the sweetness of the fruit.

PBobs · 11/03/2019 21:54

Nuts are OK as long as it's just a handful and not overly salted etc. Also rice cakes are nice with a thin layer of peanut butter on. Salty, sweet with some protein. Vegetable crisps instead of potato? Dry roasted veg rather than soft cooked? Baked potato with fillings like prawns in lemon and olive oil instead of mayo. Then a side of peas perhaps? What about lots of veg in a soup and then blend it so it's a cream of veg soup? That would be very healthy. I like broccoli, courgette, potato and a bit of stilton like this but you could skip the stilton. Do you fancy pulses? Lentils, chick peas etc? They're very good for you - just with some chopped onion, garlic, carrot, celery, a bit of tomato (tinned or passata or even watered down paste), good drizzle of olive oil. You could cook your own pulses or just use a tin for quick and easy. Will keep thinking.

PBobs · 11/03/2019 21:56

Meant to clarify the pulses "recipe" is a soup/stew thing. But they're nice cold too - I love black eyed beans cold with lemon, olive oil and then chopped parsley, carrots, tomatoes and any other veg you can stomach. Chopped small you may find it goes down easier.

DustyDoorframes · 12/03/2019 11:12

How about olives,

Megan2018 · 12/03/2019 11:17

It will pass.

I feel so much better at 13 weeks than I did at 7 - I'd give in to the food you can eat for now, then post 12 weeks try and turn it around for the rest of the pregnancy. The first trimester is hard - don't make it any harder for yourself. A few more weeks isn't going to make any difference.

coral13 · 12/03/2019 12:22

For most of 1st trimester, I could only tolerate things like cake and couldn't stomach proper meals . However since hitting 2nd trimester, I'm back to eating healthy meals and my new craving is salad!!

Secretlifeofme · 12/03/2019 12:27

I'm 7 weeks today and exactly the same. Had planned salmon and broccoli for dinner tonight but felt sick preparing it and ended up with a cheese and jam sandwich Hmm and some crackers with marmite, washed down with ginger ale Blush. Do you have any times of the day when you don't feel sick OP? I find that I'm OK at lunchtime, so I try to eat as many vegetables and healthy proteins then as I can.

Secretlifeofme · 12/03/2019 12:28

I should add that I'm not in the UK if anyone is wondering why I've had dinner at lunchtime Grin

SarahC240710 · 12/03/2019 12:56

Thanks everyone, so good to know it's not just me feeling like this at this stage. I am tending to feel off for most of the day but I'm sure in time it will pass. 💕

Stick to rice cakes and popcorn as less fatty but have that savouryness.

Also things like melon to keep you hydrated. I'd go through the whole veggie family and see what sticks.

DustyDoorframes · 12/03/2019 13:04

Hah I just spotted my rather odd post telling you to eat olives! Sorry! Toddler post- it was actually a list of lots of savoury salty things I've been able to stomach...
but you have had lots of good advice- and it will pass, it will!
