20week scan and full bladder

Daft really as you'd think I'd know with this being baby #4 but I've totally forgotten.....

Do I need to drink loads before the scan, to the point where I am fit to burst, or do I just need to drink normal and hold off going for a wee right before the scan?

TIA Smile

Have some before you go. Drink more when you get there. They generally run a bit late so don't totally bag yourself up or you'll be really uncomfortable.

I'd drink normal. I drank a good old pint before mine and my scan was an hour late. I ended up having to go before I got in. With hindsight I'd have been better off with just a cup of tea.

No need really for a 20 week scan, it’s more the 12 week one it is important for.

You could drink some water. At 20 weeks there should be enough fluid around your baby to see clearly.

I had mine today. I completely forgot I needed to have a full bladder until I got there. I hadn’t drank anything since I’d got up this morning. I had 3 small cups of water while in the waiting room and the sonographer was able to get a clear enough image to take all the necessary measurements.

I was told it wasn't necessary at my hospital. In fact they had me do a urine sample immediately beforehand so my bladder was empty. I think by 20 weeks the uterus is high enough up that it isn't as necessary to have a full bladder.

That's brilliant thank you. I plan to go early so we can go to the Costa inside the hospital before hand anyways.

Thanks again
