Shortness of breath when just talking?

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and over the last few weeks I've been struggling with shortness of breath and heavy legs.
Today its worse, just walking round my kitchen to move some dishes and even just speaking is making it very hard to breathe.

I don't know if this is something that needs checking out or if its just normal to be this much out of breath when doing simple things like talking and talking a few steps.

Thank you

It might be normal, but it’s definitely worth getting it checked out. Maybe call your maternity triage people - they should hopefully know the best next steps to take.

It was normal for me. I don't know if it's related but ds was breech for most of late pregnancy.

I was breathless and on iron from 29 weeks. However similar to you I'm 37+2 and last night especially I struggled to talk with breathlessness. Baby's bum is so high up pushing into my diaphragm now like directly under my boobs. I'm putting it down to that but will mention at growth scan on Thurs. It's not pleasant. Lying on my side is only thing helping now.

I’m 38 weeks and have been experiencing this. I’m quite petite and my bump is restricting everything I think!

I've been suffering this for the last 4 week's and I'm only 26 weeks at the minute. Even sitting at my desk in work it can come on really strong and I have to get up and go outside. I assumed it was just normal but now thinking of calling the nurse just to see if I should be getting bloods checked or anything.

EdtheBear · 11/03/2019 18:45

Please get checked out. I thought breathless and was normal. It turned out to be pneumonia.

randomsabreuse · 11/03/2019 18:50

Probably normal but get checked out - bloods for anaemia and Dr to listen to chest. I had this with DS who was measuring big and Dr said as nothing sounded amiss and bloods ok, plus no chest pain and not sudden onset best assumption was baby's bum or head wedged in diaphragm. However important to exclude pulmonary embolism, pneumonia and anaemia.

No one on the internet can tell you if it’s normal or not, and people reassuring you they were fine doesn’t help. You need to phone the ward/triage and let them see you and decide. It might be normal but it’s absolutkey worth phoning tonight I find out as it has changed today and there’s lots of things it can be which can be ruled in or out.

While I would get it checked it was certainly my normal. Couldn't make it to the end of a sentence, constantly out of puff. Ended the minute the baby was in my arms.

Daisy2990 · 11/03/2019 20:12

I struggled with this until I had a proper blood test for GD at 20 weeks, my ferritin reading was rock bottom and I was put on iron tablets immediately.
I would request a blood test that includes ferritin levels (not all do, IIRC) and in the meantime it wouldn't hurt to have Spatone in orange juice to see if that helps.
Anything to do with breathing needs to be properly checked out.

So I made an appt with my gp this morning and told him about my breathlessness, which has got worse in the last few days, even happening at night time now when resting. He said it's likely just the baby pushing up on my diaphragm, didn't want to check anything out Confused

@nathansmommy1 if you’re the OP (or even if you’re not) then contacting your midwife is a good idea, as they are the pregnancy specialists.
