Early pregnancy scan - dates don’t make sense!

Hi everyone

I really hope someone can shed some light on my situation. I went for an early pregnancy scan on the 8th March, I was told I was measuring 7weeks +3 with a confirmed “strong” heartbeat. But the dates just don’t add up to me, my last period started on the 25th Dec so I should be nearing 11 weeks. I understand I may have ovulated late etc however I received a positive test on the 28th Jan so is it possible I am only 7week+3 pregnant?

The sonographer did not seem concerned and did comment that the heartbeat was strong however he did ask that he carry out a follow up scan in 3 weeks time.

Should I be concerned?

I would only be concerned if a heartbeat couldn’t be seen. Congratulations Flowers

That does sound a bit odd, you got your BFP the same date as me and I ovulated on 18th Jan (was tracking), so I'm 9+1, although I've not had a scan yet. Can you ring your midwife to discuss it?

Was the baby stretched out for an accurate measurement ? It confuses me to i was 5+3 and they said Baby was measuring at 6 weeks +

With my first, I was on the pill & hadn't had a period for about 6 months, so they did a scan to work out how far we were, & to begin with, they said we were between 6-10 weeks, (they couldn't get a very clear view of him) & had to go back 2 weeks later to see how far the baby looked then.
When we went to our next scan, we were just under 12 weeks, so we were actually almost 10 weeks at the first scan.
At the first scan, he looked like a tiny jellyfish with a really strong heartbeat ☺️

They'll be able to tell more accurately at your next scan.

Yes, it’s possible the dates are right and you got a positive test very early on. However, the reason the dating scan is around 12 weeks is because that is the most accurate time to measure. Hopefully you’ll know more at your next scan.
