If not waters what was it?

Woke up this morning to soaked underwear it didn't smell like urine and I'm fairly certain in came from my vagina as when I was dozing in bed I could feel what I thought was air bubbles/discharge coming out. I've been up to the labour ward and I've been monitored and they've said don't believe it was waters as no continued leaking and my cervix looks closed. So if it wasn't waters or urine and was to liquid for discharge what was it. I'm frightened it was hind waters and I'll now be at risk of an infection but don't really know what to do as hospital said to go home and baby will come in it's own time.
I'm 39 weeks and getting induced a week on Mon as it's an IVF pregnancy so I was more than prepared to bide my time but I'm now anxious about the risk of infection.

It could have been a tiny hole in the sac behind the baby that has closed again.

Some women experience what is called a hind-water leak. This is where a small hole opens in the sac up behind the baby’s head.Hind-water leaks can continue as a slow dribble, or stop after a while. The amniotic fluid may stop coming away because the two layers of membrane (within the sac) slip back over each other to reseal the hole. This is why some women notice a dribble of fluid and then nothing more for several days until the fore-waters (part of the sac in front of the baby’s head) breaks.

I had the same sort of thing and they told me it wasn't my waters but I knew it was. The rest of it went 20hrs later after a day of mild cramping.

They said the same to me. Third baby and went with a pop in the night. She was born later that day.

Can they not do a swab and check if it is or isnt?
I don't want to scare you at all but a friend of mine was adament it was her waters and went to maternity unit several times. They were adament it wasnt and didn't properly swab and test.
It turned out it was and baby was born 5 days later and spent weeks in special care due to serious infection. Baby was fine in the end but it was a really bad experience and she always wished in hindsight that she'd pushed for any and every test to be sure.

Id go back! I was induced at 38 weeks, 3 days after having a knock to the belly and a mysterious leak while out shopping. it was a large "dribble" (enough to soak through jeans) not your usual pregnancy laughing/sneezing incontinence lol. Did NOT smell like urine it smelled like paper?! They said amniotic fluid smells like straw so i was convinced- midwives not so much. I was dilated about 2cm so they monitored baby and started me on drip they were concerned that he may get an infection. They had to pop my waters during labour as it was not progressing even with drip- after he was born they inspected the placenta and there was evidence of degradation so she asked if i was a smoker- which i am not. Didnt get to the bottom of it but i think it was hind waters that had leaked 72 hours before. Dread to think what would have happened if i hadnt rang up to say i think my waters had gone.

I'm going to see how I get on overnight and hope labour starts off on it's own. They did do a swab which came back negative and had a look with a speculum. With my pregnancy being IVF I am prone to a bit of anxiety so it's hard for me to judge if I'm being over anxious or have a reason to be genuinely concerned.
Thanks to all that have replied.

I had this with my first two pregnancies. It sounds like “cervical weeping” - sounds ridiculous but midwife told me about it. It’s basically as the cervix is ripening and plug is melting etc this fluid comes out. If you’ve been checked and it’s def not waters then I reckon that’s it. I thought I had wet myself but def wasn’t urine.

Oh and I went into labour within 36 hours of having it both times so get ready...

Bridgeofpies · 09/03/2019 20:04

Just googled it as I couldn’t quite remember the details and apparently it’s to do with water content as the cervix softens... or something!

SpinningSister · 09/03/2019 21:17

Did they swab you for waters?
My hind waters went 11 days before I went to labour and when they swabbed 3 days before they found it was waters and I had an induction booked that I didn’t have because I laboured naturally

When he was born he had breathing problems and an infection 7 day NICU stay.

Please call and asked to be swabbed

Show them my reply if need be

SpinningSister · 09/03/2019 21:18

SORRY SORRY SORRY

I’ve just seen you were swabbed

For anyone else ever in the same position and googling this was cervical weeping and not waters, latent labour started off on Tues morning and continued through to today (Fri) were due to lack of progression I've ended up with a C section but my waters were officially broken on Thurs and the membrane was def intact at that point.
