Huge congratulations! If you’re on Facebook, request to join the Future of Downs group, it’s an amazing, supportive community. There’s also a FOD pregnancy group, which you should have a search for (if you can’t find it, I can’t remember if it’s secret or not, do a search in the main Future of Downs group and you’ll find a few threads about it).
The Down’s Syndrome Association website has a list of local groups so you can find out what support groups and charities are active in your area. Here in Bucks we have Sparkles (www.sparkles.org.uk) which provides speech therapy, physio and occupational therapy to pre-schoolers with Down’s Syndrome in and around Buckinghamshire (basically anyone who can make it to the the sessions in High Wycombe and Aylesbury).
Also have a look at the Positive About Down’s Syndrome website, as they’ve got some great stories from families.
Finally, my daughter Cara is involved in a brilliant photography project #DownRightAmazing (www.downrightamazing.co.uk). We are releasing a photo portrait a day in the run up to World Downs Syndrome Day on 21st March. Take a look at our FB group!
Welcome to the club. It’s a journey none of us expected, but a pretty amazing one!
My daughter is 3 and a half, doing brilliantly, no health problems, learnt to walk about a year ago, has over 100 Makaton signs and loads of words 😊
