Just that really.. In first trimester and struggling with going to the toilet which is for the first time so far so haven't taken anything for it whilst being pregnant.. Just didn't really know what to take? What's safe in pregnancy? Any over the counter things I can buy that are obviously safe in pregnancy to save a trip to the doctors. Any help or advice would be great! Thank you

I got prescribed lactulose by my GP but think you can get it at boots if you speak to one of their pharmacists?

Lizbiz89 · 07/03/2019 22:12

Movicol is what I've used this pregnancy. Works like a dream and you can buy it over the counter in boots. Also very safe in pregnancy.

Thesunrising · 07/03/2019 22:14

As above - Movicol or Laxido (which is cheaper) and lots of water and watery fruit/veg eg salad, pears, watermelon etc.

Hello! I am the same and have been using fybogel hi-fibre sachets (get in Boots also). They’re actually really good, especially if you drink one first thing before eating anything!

cathyj87 · 07/03/2019 22:26

I'm 22 weeks and have been there myself! Lots of water, fruit, bran flakes and a good big glass of fruit juice a day helped (and is helping with the second wave)

Rafabella8 · 07/03/2019 22:32

Drink BIG glasses of room temp water. Also, lie on your back - gently take your knees into your chest and slowly do circles keeping your knees together clockwise and then anti clockwise. Really gently massaging your lower back on the floor. Will get things moving.

Prune juice. Very effective stuff Grin

namechange5575 · 07/03/2019 23:44

All bran every day. I had it mixed with yoghurt and blueberries for extra probiotics and fibre. Sorted everything out.

RMarieClaire · 08/03/2019 08:08

I'm 23 weeks and this is still an issue. I have 6 prunes with breakfast every day and it has helped hugely.

Your midwife can advise, as can your doctor, but if like me, it's an issue all pregnancy, nature has everything you need! (Helps that I actually really like prunes)

Bella245 · 08/03/2019 14:13

Prunes here too. Also magnesium supplements. I take them at night. Lots of beans and lentils and veg. It's bloody awful otherwise.

AnnaMagnani · 08/03/2019 14:16

Movicol, movicol, movicol.

If you go to the pharmacy and ask for it, ask if there is a cheaper version because there will be. Movicol is the most expensive brand name, there are many many other names (Laxido is one) and they are all cheaper.

shivbo2014 · 08/03/2019 14:27

Im 22 weeks and I have to have a bowl of bran flakes every morning and plenty of water or I cant go!

bessie84 · 08/03/2019 14:47

My best friend was prune juice - worked within an hour after downing a glass full - tastes absolutely yack - but it was my savious - Also, Lactulose works (but takes couple days)

HeartvsHead · 08/03/2019 22:37

Bran flakes for breakfast every day without fail for 8 months. Literally from the day I found out!

RosiePosies · 08/03/2019 23:57

Lactulose, prune juice and dried apricots 👍🏻. Also trying to keep loads of fruit and veg in my diet helps. I still eat a lot of McDonald's though 😬

Annasgirl · 09/03/2019 13:46

A dessert spoon of linseed - either over yiur cereal or, as I preferred, with a glass of warm water to wash down. Also some prunes with breakfast but linseed is gentle and very effective.
