Confused about baby bodysuits!

Ok so everything I have read says that bodysuits are worn like vests under other stuff. But what about if it has a pretty pattern? What do I pair it with to show it off? Is it ok to wear a bodysuit with leggings or will the baby look half dressed?? I’ve seriously looked everywhere for the answer to this and no joy!!

Depends on when your baby is due. Mine was born in June and wore a lot of bodysuits on their own or with leggings. If it’s a winter baby you could do a cardigan and I guess you’ll see a bit of bodysuit pattern. Most people choose some variation of sleepwear for their newborns though, I don’t think there’s an issue with your new baby looking half dressed! Just one thing to consider- the non-pretty plain white can be bleached in case of nappy incident!

Agree with previous poster. I tend to use one under anything so it holds nappy and adds a layer. So with DD I save nicer ones for under a dress then tights, and for under dungarees which I love.

I often dress my 7 month old in a bodysuit/vest with a pair of leggings/tights and a Cardigan.

Dungarees! Bodysuits with dungarees are great!

And don’t forget you can have them in just a bodysuit at home, so you get to see the pattern, but something over the top when you go out.

I use coloured/patterned under dresses/dungarees and plain white if using it as a vest. During the summer months I often use them instead of t-shirts with shorts/leggings.

DD was an August baby , and wore a body suit and a nappy on hot days
Though my SIL was shocked as DD wasn’t dressed 😀

Long sleeved body suits under dungarees or a dress (dungarees look lovely on girls too and don’t just end up in a bundle round their neck like dresses!). I do think they look a bit half dressed with just a body suit and leggings but in this weather you can put a cardigan on, which looks more dressed to me. To be fair both DS and DD spent the vast majority of their first 3 months in a short sleeved vest with a sleepsuit over it. I still like choosing nice ones even if only DH and I ever see them.

olderthanyouthink · 06/03/2019 21:50

I use two bodysuits a lot, one as underwear and one as Like a t shirt. Then leggings/soft trousers/dungarees. Dresses are a pain in the bum but a bodysuit can help keep tights up.

Plus cardigan or jumper.

Tights under trousers work well so there's no gap when DD is I the carrier.

Most of our bodysuits are (H&M) wrap over ones so very little has to go over DDs head which we all hate

elibee · 06/03/2019 22:06

I've always preferred having outfits on mine during the day so they often wear a short sleeve one with legging or shorts in the summer or a long sleeve one with dungarees or leggings and a cardigan in the winter.

Meant to say aswell I found bodysuits better than tops as tops ride up all the time

AssassinatedBeauty · 06/03/2019 22:10

Don't worry about whether anyone else thinks your baby is "underdressed". If you like what they're wearing that's all that matters.

Thanks everyone, that’s all very useful!! :)
