Hello everyone. I have found out I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I have heard that I should be taking sole vitamins or something but I have absolutely no idea what!! Please could you tell me the brands and tablets you recommend and what I should be taking? Doctors booked for tomorrow so could get some insight there

You need folic acid which is cheap as chips and all the same whichever type you get.

I take a generic pregnancy multi vitamin, you want a pregnancy specific one as it excludes one of the vitamins in a normal multi which you’re meant to avoid in pregnancy, can’t remember which, and includes your daily dose of folic.

You don’t need to see your GP about being pregnant unless your surgery requires you to to be referred to the midwife. At my practise you self refer to the midwife service at which we hospital you want to have your baby at and they contact you with a date for your booking appointment at around 8 weeks. At that they do some blood tests, take your history and some will then book your 12 week dating scan.

All the info you need is on your nhs website - vitamins, antenatal care schedule, foods to avoid etc.

Congratulations!

Thank you!

As you can tell I'm very inexperienced with this haha and slightly unprepared, although I imagine most it all people feel pretty overwhelmed with their first

The minimum you need is Folic Acid and Vitamin D

You don't need any of the fancy brands with other things in, there is nothing wrong with them but they aren't essential if your diet is otherwise good. Read this www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/pregnancy-supplements-dont-help-just-take-vit-d-and-folic-acid/

You can get a cheap Folic Acid and Vitamin D supplement very cheaply from Boots and similar like this www.boots.com/boots-folic-acid-and-vitamin-d-tablets-60-tablets-10145803

Definitely! It’s so much easier these days to get access to loads of info online. Join an antenatal group on here for people due when you are for other people to chat to, have a look on the nhs site, MN has loads of useful info too.

I like the Ovia app which is free and has info by the day (including what type of fruit your baby is the size of, people are obsessed with that!). It’s American so there are some differences but it’s nice to be able to chart your pregnancy and it has a calendar you can put your appointments in to as well.

I’ve been using pregnacare through out the pregnancy and seems to be doing the job - as OP said the pregnancy ones have the right vitamins in as some others have stuff in there not recommended for pregnancy.

Congrats!

I used pregnacare but made my nausea worse. I switched to together vitamins and feel a lot better. No bad taste after and no nausea.
