Waters breaking advice please!

Good morning, I'm 38+5 with DC2 and when I awoke this morning, my knickers were wet and my PJ bottoms were damp. I did the sniff test, and it didn't smell like wee. So I rang triage who told me to wear a pad and go to see them at 11am today.

I was induced with DC1, so this is new to me and although I wasn't expecting a Hollywood gush, I was expecting more than just a little trickle in the middle of the night. I don't feel like I'm currently leaking either, so I may just have wee'd a little in my sleep 🙈.

Can you tell me what it was like when your waters went? Does this sound like mine could have?

Thank you!!

This sounds exactly the same as when my waters went. However I didn't go into labour spontaneously and was induced 2 days later. Good luck!

Sorry no advice as I had a csection but.... how exciting that you'll be meeting your baby soon. Good luck OP x

Waters smell like semen if that helps!

With DC1 I had a Hollywood Gush
With DC2 I had a gradual trickle, like what yiu are describing now.

Given that you are 38+5, I’d go and see the hospital at 11am. If it is your waters, you and your bs y are now at risk of infection. You never know, Labour might have started by then!

Hi OP, congratulations, I had this too!
Keep walking around today, do you feel little tiny leaks?

My waters had partially broken. I never went into natural labour and I was induced via drip 2 days later.

As my waters were broken I was open to infection, and as the baby was born 55 hours later unfortunately it was enough time for me and the baby to get infections. On reflection if this happened to me again I would insist to have the induction earlier.

If you are induced on the drip (there will be lots of monitoring like bump/heart rate monitor, blood pressure cuff, drip, your finger heart rate monitor. My hospital wouldn't allow a water birth due to increased risk of infection...) Just make sure to keep moving around, keep active as it helps speed up labour. I found it all too easy to just lie there on the bed and on reflection this made my labour longer.

Best of luck- send us updates

Thanks everyone! ☺️

Unfortunately I can't feel any trickles, but I will keep on the move!! I'm definitely going to the hospital at 11am, as I wouldn't want to risk an infection, even if it was possibly a false alarm.

Baby seems way more active than she usually is, so maybe that's a positive sign! 🤞🏼

Also because I lost 1.5 litres of blood with DC1, I have to have a doctor led labour, so I don't have the option for a water birth.

But I'll certainly update this thread after my appointment, as I hate it when you invest your advice and the OP never comes back. Lol!

No idea as I was induced with DS, but just wanted to say good luck! Flowers

My waters began leaking around 10.30am in the morning, almost like a heavy period/discharge for several hours before I thought it might actually be my waters. I went into hospital that evening with a pad and when they tested it they confirmed it. They sent me home to see if contractions started and if they didnt I had to go in the next morning at 10.30.
Well at 3am the following morning contractions started, I laboured at home til 11am next morning before going back to hospital.

instagland · 05/03/2019 09:58

When I was induced I remember standing up from the loo and some water shooting out of me and that didn't feel like a wee, but wasn't a massive gush you'd expect (contractions came very quickly after, so think it was waters), they went properly not long after (had a quick labour of 2 hrs) on the bed. I was mortified at the time as I had a lot of gas and air and assumed it was wee, but in hindsight it was my waters going properly.

I would definitely get checked out, so you know where you are. I think some units will have a policy to induce in 48hrs if no contractions start. If you think about it, membranes won't necessarily rupture creating a big hole for the water to come gushing out and will be different for everyone. It could also be hind waters too.

headshoulderskneesandtoe · 05/03/2019 10:07

With my first, I sat up in the morning with my first contraction and had a trickle and wet pjs. Called the hospital, went up and was examined. It wasn't my waters, but likely I'd wet myself Blush

Husband thought it was hilarious, I was mortified but I was back there 3 hours later in full labour and baby came the next day!

Good luck!

So it's a false alarm and confirmation that I now have no control over my bladder! Blush

Thanks for all your comments! Hopefully it won't be too much longer until this baby comes! 🤞🏼

That’s frustrating, OP! Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long.
