Hello! I just found out I'm pregnant and this is my firstSmileof course I'm extremely overwhelmed and the first thing in my mind is what do I do now? Clear blue test says I'm 2-3 weeks pregnant and my last period was 22nd January. What do you do first? Call a GP? Or am I too early on to do anything yet?

Sorry if I seem very inexperienced..that's because I am and I haven't told anyone yet so I'm bursting inside with multiple emotions!

Congratulations! You don’t always need to book in with a gp, I filled a form out online for my hospital and they contacted me with a date for my first appointment!

Clear blue dates from concepton so 2-3 weeks would be 4-5 weeks pregnancy although the week indicator isn’t completely accurate. My last period was 26th January which puts me at 5 weeks and 2 days today so you may be a little further ahead depending on your cycle.

I hope you have a good pregnancy!

Congratulations!

Just book an appointment with the midwife. The doctor appointment is pointless (from my previous experience).

I went to the doctor with my first pregnancy and she assumed I was there because it was bad news and I wanted to know what my options were Blush I'd ring the surgery and ask how you refer to the midwife - you'll need to go for a booking appointment and then your 12 week scan will be organised, congratulations and good luck!

Congratulations!!! Have a look online about booking antenatal care in your area.

Congratulations, first thing to do is check your GP surgery website for their procedure for booking with midwives - some areas it’s self referral, others you still have to be referred via the surgery by completing a form and handing it in, and some areas you actually have to be seen by a GP before they send a referral across.

Next, if you aren’t already, get yourself vitamin D and folic acid tablets (they are the only things advised to take from the start - when you see the midwife around 8-10 weeks they can advise whether you need to take anything else) and make sure you’re drinking plenty as it’s easy to get a bit dehydrated - will also help with any early constipation you might develop). Make sure you eat as healthily as you can (have a read up on the NHS Choices website about the things best avoided during pregnancy), stop smoking if you do and stop drinking alcohol. Ensure you get plenty of sleep - the early weeks can be shattering.

You might want to download a couple of apps that walk you through the next few months - a lot of people (myself included) use the Pregnancy+ app which is very good.

Good luck and, above all, enjoy preparing to welcome the new addition to your family xx
