Hey everyone some advice needed please! Trying to gather the last bits needed before baby arrives as I'm 38+2 weeks .. so anyway I'm planning on breastfeeding but I'm not going to put to much pressure on myself and need to get some formula bought in just Incase! Which would you recommend? I was thinking maybe SMA? What's your views?

They're all basically the same, due to the laws around the ingredients. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, 24 hour supermarkets will have everything you might need, so personally I wouldn't bother buying any in advance.

@AssassinatedBeauty thanks for the reply! Suppose that's true I guess I'm just trying to be prepared for all scenarios! These last two weeks I've been driving myself crazy lol

I bought the ready made aptamil that comes in starter kits with pre sterilised teats. I didn’t bother buying bottles etc before hand as I was planning to BF so these were perfect as a back up.

I bought six small bottles of sma premade just in case baby needed it.
Turned out that he couldn't breastfeed (didn't feed for the first 24 hours!) and I also absolutely hated doing so. Went straight onto formula and doing much better.
Like previous poster, the 24 hour supermarkets are great, I only had them to hand as neither me or partner drive.

@TerriB1984 oh they sound handy! I didn't even know you could get them! Thank you!

I have done exactly this - as per @TerriB1984

babystripes · 04/03/2019 10:23

@HappyMama01 do you can get the sma ready made also? I wonder does Asda or Tesco's have them! I'm gonna pop down after and check! Better to be prepared than rushing about stresses of breastfeeding isn't successful! I'm hoping it is but there's always that chance I guess!

Everyone said to me not to get any in if I was planning to bf as it would be easy to get and too tempting to use etc etc. Well, cut to 11pm on a Saturday night, nowhere open to buy formula and my ds would not take the breast. He screamed and cried all night long, it was the longest night ever and my dh was hammering down the door of asda when it opened at 10am. So I would always says have some in!!

My sister in law is a neonatal nurse and I asked her this last week. (She deals with really early babies with parents who are usually way under prepared as they obviously weren't expecting their baby so early).

She said don't worry! It's unlikely you will have an issue and if there is an issue, it's usually down to technique and getting used to it etc than an actual problem. She said having formula to hand might make you more likely to forget but that all supermarkets have formula, so if you did really need it, you'd be able to get it quick enough.

Sorry forget was supposed to say give in!
