Cloth/reusable nappies

I'm considering using cloth nappies or biodegradables..

What cloth nappies would you recommend?

Love me some prefolds and separate covers!
They turned out to be my preference to inserts and other options as it gave me the ability to add as many boosters as I needed for nights, and different folds to allow more leg room when starting to walk and different sizes too
Also, in my price range (go second hand or you can use a company that wash them) as apposed to buying all in one kind of items without having to faff with lots of folds for regular cloth squares.
Does that make sense? My brain isn't what it used to be 😂
Definitely not as much faff as people make out cloth nappies will be

I second that PP! For me it's flats and prefolds with covers. Easy as pie. Cheap. Absorbant.

I got on really well with terry squares.

I also had some pocket nappies which were great for nursery/babysitters etc. I stuffed them with folded terries.

The key thing i found was the fit of the wrap. Nature babies fit mine brilliantly, but the motherease were baggy and everything slid around and leaked.

I’d get a couple of wraps of different makes and see which suits your baby. If you have a chunk you may need a different shape to a skinny minnie.

I've bought terry squares and wraps because I need to be able to iron them and I had NO idea that would be the case. I did the Nappy Lady survey and they told me I'd have to iron them given where I'll be living. I was super impressed. No sales pitch just straight up solid advice - and in my case advice to buy the cheapest option.

We have a selection of hempies similar to terry squares & miosolos because DH "can't" get his head around how to fit the hempies properly.

I'm having issues with finding wraps to go over the top - which wraps do others find work well? DD is in 9-12 clothes & quite skinny!

Choosing reusable nappies was the best thing I’ve ever done. It definitely isn’t as hard as people says it is, it’s just like putting another wash on, and it’s kinder to my DS’s bum as he has very sensitive skin. We put him in disposable nappies when he was first born, just so I didn’t have to do the wash for a few days and he ended up getting really irritated. So we switched to cloth.

I would recommend the nappy lady’s questionnaire though, it’ll tell you what is right for you, and is really useful.

I was on a forum when i was researching nappies and a large group of us all did the nappy lady questionairre.

It told us all the same- tots bots with motherease wraps Hmm

I did buy a couple to try but as i said upthread motherease did not suit dc at all, and tots bots were way out of my budget.

I became nappy obsessed! Tried everything. I loved little lamb bamboo shaped nappies at night with a fleece wrap, and Charlie banana during the day. I also quite loved slinki minky for playing at home (they were quite big and fleecy!! Not great for under clothes but fab for playing at home) but they've stopped trading. I got on just fine with ebay cheapy pocket nappies too mind, and had some super funky colours.

PBobs · 05/03/2019 23:04

@Reallyanotherone that's interesting. I didn't get that recommendation at all. Maybe it's because the group you were in were all a similar demographic or something? So similar priorities, budget etc?

Rtmhwales · 05/03/2019 23:48

I use them and love them. I use disposables over night though. I'd suggest some but I'm in North America now - I've saved tons of money. Probably only spend £10 on nappies every three months or so. I bought mine second hand and they'll get me through to toilet training.

OwlPrincess · 06/03/2019 00:05

I would also recommend the nappy lady's questionnaire. I knew I wanted to use cloth nappies but was pretty clueless as to where to start and this was a massive help.

I love the little lamb nappies and use them with fleece liners day and night.

We used disposables for the first week or so whilst we got our heads round the fact we had a baby then went on to the cloth nappies and I wish I'd started sooner! So much better on my baby's skin and no leaks.

My DH wasn't too keen on the cloth nappies idea but went along with it and after one day of using them was completely sold.

We used close parent pop-ins which were an “all in 2” type. We found them excellent and will use them again with no. 2 when he/she arrives. We would roll them up in front of the telly at night ready for use and they went on the same as a disposable which was handy when she started going to childminder/grandparents once I was back to work as it was easy to explain how to put them on.

Do you have a nappy library near you? We hired a variety of brands and types from ours when our little on was 2 weeks old. It was very useful to try them all out.
