Does anyone have experience of low PAPP-A?

Hello,

My blood work came back with PAPP-A of 0.28
I’m driving myself mad googling, some info seems to suggest it’s nothing to worry about (just hormones being weird, due to non-meat diet or that the baby could be a boy) other are rather dramatic and suggest that I may have problems with the placenta, could develop pre-eclampsia, and possibly IUGR.
Really just hoping that others have experienced low PAPP-A and can tell me what to expect, if anything. My midwife hasn’t got back to me yet so I will call the other numbers I have but I’d like to hear some real life experience.

Thank you Smile

Just make sure you get growth scans, and I believe they might also give you baby aspirin to avoid preeclampsia

Thanks for the reply @onemoremummy, have you had the same?

Hi, yes I had it and my DS was a very healthy size & weight. I had growth scans every 3 weeks from 32 weeks (or something like that)! Low PAPP-A has sometimes been linked to those issues which is why they monitor it but most certainly not always. My consultant saw me twice and said there was no need to see him again as it was evident there was no issue in my case. Pls try not to worry, best wishes.

I had it and was given extra growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. The first two scans were fine but at 36 weeks they were concerned that the baby wasn’t growing properly. They sent me to another hospital to see a specialist and he recommended that I was induced in the next couple of day. My son was born 2 days later and was slightly low birthweight (just under 5lb). He was kept in and monitored for a week but he was fine. He’s 7 now and has had no problems relating to the pregnancy.

I was more closely monitored in my second pregnancy as well, but my Papp-a levels were fine and my second child went full term and was a healthy weight.

Thank you Smile Good to know that you had good pregnancies and no long lasting issues. It’s a strange one from what I’ve learnt - could be linked to all sorts, could also be nothing at all. The boy theory seems to hold true on the thread so far! It’s crazy, this pregnancy lark!
