Might be a silly question I’m due April so it’ll be warm ish, what did you dress your newborn in outside the house? Baby grows or outfits? I haven’t bought any newborn outfits I’ve just bought baby grows & vests

Thank you x

They need to wear one more layer than you. Babygrows are ideal. I personally couldn’t be bothered with outfits but if you do I suggest ones without too many buttons or parts. A top and leggings is much easier to put on (and remove again after a poonami/vomiting episode). I also found socks a pain.
I’d get a mixture of baby grows tops and leggings and some cardis and maybe a lightweight coat.

We went with layers, so a vest, a baby grow, and if it was very cold, a jacket or a warmer one piece suit over the top ( although you have to be careful because some of these are too padded to be safe in a car seat.)

Also a hat, gloves if necessary, and if in the pram a blanket too.

A vest, babygro, knitted cardi (nice and easy to put on) and little jacket or blankets. I don't bother with outfits.

Vest, babygrow and cardigan/coat/all in one snow suit depending on weather. I didn’t do outfits much and if I did then leggings and top but socks are a nightmare to keep on so found babygrows easier

#1 had outfits - vests, top, bottoms, socks, hat and a cardigan.

#2 had babygrows - vest, babygrow, hat and cardigan until about 6 months.

If I had #3 I would stick with babygrows again, so much easier for me and comfortable for baby.

You will find other people buy outfits.

My newborn dd wears vest, clothes, thick cardi and wooly hat on cold days or cotton hat on warmer days with flanelette sheet and car seat apron when in car seat.

When out in pram same as above but no cardigan as we are using the tuppence and crumble star wrap and a crocheted blanket.

I just stuck with baby grows with a vest underneath and a cardi on top during the day. I didn't bother changing clothes in the morning. I changed them them they got pooed on or dribbles on, so a baby grow could have lasted anything from 10 mins to 24 hours. They are in and out of bed so often when they are tiny, there didn't seam like a lot of point in having pyjamas and day clothes.

Babygros only for me. With an extra layer or hat based on temperature. All your newborn needs is to feel soft and comfy, any further floofiness is for your benefit, not the baby's.

I did have some lovely babygros though Wink le petit bateau ones are v cute

Babygrow with a vest underneath, i somethings put DD in outfits but babygrows are so much easier because you don't have to faff about with socks or mitts.

Nathansmommy1 · 02/03/2019 18:17

Vest, babygrow and a thick warm cardigan. I'm due in June and picked up thick cardigans/jackets in the sales as the lighter ones have started coming in now for summer and I preferred the heavier ones when my older child was a baby

SoyDora · 02/03/2019 18:23

Mine is 7 weeks and wears vest, babygrow and a thick cardigan, then I layer with blankets.
He’s been bought a few outfits but they’re a pain in the arse... tops ride up, trousers tend to be too short on the leg but too wide round the waist, dungarees bunch up at the top etc.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 02/03/2019 18:27

Vest > babygrow > thick cardigan with hood > Tuppence and Crumble Star Wrap.

If it was a bit warmer, we’d use a lighter cardy or none at all.

Nothing is cuter than a curled up newborn in a onesie.

HappyGoGoLucky · 02/03/2019 18:28

Babygrow and snowsuit

Nothingunpleasant · 02/03/2019 18:28

Other people may well buy you outfits but leggings and tops are much easier. Just layer up depending on the weather. All-in-ones are ok until you have a nappy accident and then you’re changing the whole thing instead of just the bottoms.

QuickRedFox · 02/03/2019 18:38

It’s much easier with babygros until they discover their feet and want to play with them.
Most people pit outfits on their babies and even put them in pyjamas. Seems weird when you think how many naps babies have during the day.
The babygro days pass so fast so make the most of them. There are enough years of fiddly little jeans to come

missmouse101 · 02/03/2019 18:40

Vest, babygro, cardi and spare blanket.

Marmite27 · 02/03/2019 18:42

DD2 was born early April last year. At most she wore a vest until August. However it was uncommonly warm last year.
