GP requesting repeat blood tests

Hi,

I am 31 weeks pregnant. On Monday I went for my 28 week blood tests (I had moved address so had to register with a new midwife etc which is why I was late being sent for them).

As the hospital I had already chosen to give birth in falls under another area (Dudley Group of Hospitals) and my new GP falls under Sandwell & West Birmingham, I was told I would have to go to a Dudley hospital for my bloods.

On Wednesday, my GP surgery sent a letter saying I needed to go for blood tests. I received the letter yesterday and called today to ask what the blood tests were for (I thought there might have just been a cross over between midwife sending me for bloods and the GP surgery updating their records). The receptionist was unhelpful and just said "well you need a full blood count". I told her I'd had tests on Monday and she said they needed to be redone.
As my blood test form detailed the Sandwell/West Bham hospitals, I asked which hospital group I should go to and the receptionist didn't really know.

Two questions:

  1. could this just be a clerical error where the information hasn't been passed between the two areas properly?
  2. should I be concerned about them wanting to retest so quickly?

It could be something as simple as that test didn't get run / the sample got lost or your levels are little low and they advised a retest.

If it was really totally abnormal, I think they would have probably phoned rather than sending a letter.

It might be the sample was rejected. I had to give my '28 week' bloods four times! I wouldn't worry at all about it.

Could have been mislabeled before it reached the lab. Which is more likely.

Phew - thank you all for quick responses! I just panicked but your comments make perfect sense. I'll go and get them re-done. Thanks again Smile
