Healthy snacks for morning sickness?

Hello! I am currently 7 weeks pregnant with DC2 and overweight (my own fault, I know). I'm very conscious that I don't want to gain too much weight this pregnancy (I was a healthy weight before DC1) and have been doing well up until this week with lots of protein, fruit and veg. Sadly, nausea has now set in and all I want is beige junk! I have been snacking on biscuits and having carb-heavy meals to stave off the sickness. Are there any good ways to curb this craving in a healthier way? I thought about replacing pasta with spiralised veg but the thought really didn't appeal when all I wanted was stodge....! Any advice greatly appreciated.

I am also struggling to eat anything but carbs!
I have found a little pot of cheese cubes and little bits of cucumber and tomato quite nice to nibble to keep the sickness at bay. Any other veg I can't really think about right now!

I lived off crackers and noodles for a while but found I really enjoyed some melon. I think I'm dehydrated most of the time with being sick but some juicy pieces of melon helped.

Tbh i would just go with the cravings for now, whatever makes you feel better, if theres such a thing. It should hopefully settle and then it will be much easier to eat all the good healthy food.
I quite like a wee baked potato with tuna and onion and salad, really hit the spot, so does baked sweet potato with cottage cheese. Still carbs but not stodgy.

I found bananas, grapes, beans on toast helped me a lot. It’s stressful isn’t it. Being sick but trying to eat healthy x

I'm 8 weeks and I've told myself I can eat whatever I feel like until I'm in the second trimester, when hopefully I'll feel a bit more 'normal' and can focus on being a bit healthier (I gained 3.5st with DS and don't want to put that much on again). I've been having around 6-7 snacks/small meals instead of main meals as I find that's better for the nausea, but I'm the same as you - I just want cheese on toast and hot cross buns all the carbs!

Have you tried ginger? Long time since mine so just double check up to date thinking on safety, but a cup of ginger tea (literally fresh ginger root, about an inch per mug, grated and boiled up in water for a couple of minutes) helped me a lot. Add a bit of lemon and spoon of sugar if it’s more palatable.

I found breadsticks quite good for staving off the sickness without being calorie heavy (if you just have one at a time that is). Not exactly healthy but when only beige carbs will really do it's an improvement on toast with lashings of butter, which was what I really wanted.

Helped with nausea that is, a lot. Didn’t stop me feeling hungry.

Thanks everyone- some really helpful ideas. Going to stock up on breadsticks, cheese, melon and ginger tea this weekend in the hopes I can eat better next week!

The only thing that helped me was eating carbs. I actually lost most of the weightgain in the beginning of the second trimester, so eat whatever works and listen to your body.

scaredofthecity · 02/03/2019 06:50

I think you've just got to go with it. Trying to stay eating healthy just made me feel much worse, and it put me off some of my favourite lunches for a long time after I was pregnant!

Thismummyruns · 02/03/2019 06:58

Really sorry but healthy went out of the window for me. I lived off anything I could keep down/wanted. In fact, the more calorific the better to try to sustain energy!

AuntVanya · 02/03/2019 07:14

Ginger cordial helped take the edge off my nausea- I think Belvoir make one but there are probably others. You can have it hot or cold.
Go with the carbs- I think they work in the circumstances.... This is not the time to lose weight. I get that you don't want to go crazy but this is probably the trickiest time of your pregnancy where your diet is concerned.... Once this phase is over you can go back to your spiralised courgettes!
Wholemeal toast with Anchor lite and marmite?
Toasted pitta bread and hummus. Maybe those flavoured pittas - garlic and coriander, or Ocado has these delicious turmeric ones.
Basic potato salad- boiled potatoes with (pasteurised) light light mayo and a few chives.
Miso/ powdered chicken soup???

polkadotpixie · 02/03/2019 07:16

I ate anything I could stomach tbh, mainly carbs

If you want to eat healthily maybe try rice crackers, bananas, wholemeal toast, cold boiled new potatoes etc

Realistically though, if your nausea is really bad, just eat whatever you can or need to eat. Worry about it once you're feeling better

I'm finding chewing gum is really helping!

NotTired · 02/03/2019 11:11

The only thing I could stomach was dry crunchy nut.
