I had GD last pregnancy so wasn't allowed to eat during labour etc..
I have been lucky this time and not got GD I am just starting to think about snacks..Looked at lists of what's reccomended but what did you actually take in with you and what was a waste of time..
TIA

I took cereal bars, mini cheddars, crisps, lots of water and some apples. DS came too quickly for me to eat any of it though 😄 x

Smoothies can't recommend enough to keep bowels loose (tmi)

Same here. I packed a load of carefully selected and well planned snacks and was in labour 20 minutes... anyway, those little graze boxes are fab. Bags of fruit and nuts. Chocolate- you may fancy it, you may not, but if you want it and you don't have it you'll regret it- little premade jelly pots, lucozade. Try to take a mixture of sweet and savoury and some drinks. Good luck!

I had sandwiches, crisps, nuts and biscuits for waiting for the induction to kick in.
Once labour was properly under way I had jelly babies and lucozade.
I got fed quite well at the hospital but husband appreciated not having to go to the overpriced shop!

My bag is packed - 39+3 today. I've got Mars bars, lucozade and haribo sweets Grin good luck!!!

M0reGinPlease · 01/03/2019 15:11

Op god yes how could I forget the haribo!

ApolloandDaphne · 01/03/2019 15:15

Mars Bars. All the Mars Bars you can fit in.

OMGithurts · 01/03/2019 15:18

Mini tracker bars, they don't go melty in a hot ward. And little cartons of Apple juice. Even if you don't eat them while labouring you might be glad for them afterwards on the postnatal ward. DC2 was born by ELCS at 9.45am, dinner was crap, and he had a mega nursing session from about 11pm until about 3am. I was very glad for snacks.

I’m definitely taking Jaffa cakes. In fact my hospital bag list contains just one items so far and it’s jaffa cakes. 😂

Thegirlwithnousername · 01/03/2019 16:07

Thanks ladies, I already have some fruit and nuts and cereal bars but loving the chocolate and jaffa cakes! I will pick up some Mars bars/Jelly babies.
I am not a fan of the isotonic drinks so going to take some apple juice cartons.
Good point that I might just want some snacks for after labour, DH said he would walk over to the local shop as well.

I had some John west tuna type pasta meals (the ones that don’t need refrigerating). Really handy when I was admitted at about 6cm so they wouldn’t let me go home but it wasn’t full on yet. I’d not had dinner and dd didn’t arrive for 12 more hours so more substantial food was good.

Adviceplease1234 · 01/03/2019 17:45

Lucozade was so helpful for me. I couldn’t face eating anything but my DH kept putting a straw in my mouth so I could sip lucozade to keep me going.

I ate all the chocolate I’d packed after I gave birth : )

PalindromicUser · 01/03/2019 17:48

I was induced and DH packed himself a little picnic poor love

I managed to wolf down a mini pork pie in between contractions at one point Grin

FuchsiaG · 01/03/2019 19:24
