Uti re-testing?

Hi ladies
I’m currently 20+3. At my 16 week appointment, I gave mw my routine urine sample and I got a call from the gp’s 5 days ago that a uti was detected and I was prescribed antibiotics for 7 days. It was shocking to me that they took that long to contact me. Although I didn’t have much symptoms, I could’ve easily had that infection for weeks and weeks undiagnosed. Is it common to take that long for the tests to arrive. And who’s fault is it? The midwife, the hospital(where they send to test) or the gp surgery. I don’t know who to speak to about this. My next midwife appointment is in my 28 weeks which is far and from what I noticed, she isn’t the kind to bother because she also lost my urine sample at my booking appointment and didn’t contact me. She just casually mentioned it at 17 weeks, brushing it off saying all’s well and it shouldn’t matter.

Also, will I be offered another urine test to see if the infection is gone or can I request it. Should I contact my midwife or gp? Sorry it’s all new to me. I’m a ftm and new to the country and never had a uti.

As a ftm, you should also have a 24 week appointment. Call to book it.

Oh didn't know about 24 week, I will book it. Thank you!

Hi OP, I agree with you that it’s terrible. I always call the GP or midwife to chase my results as it’s just too easy to fall through the cracks.

Can you call your GP or midwife and ask to be retested after your course of antibiotics?

Yes I will, thanksSmile
