How to prevent a miscarriage

I had a missed miscarriage last May and an early miscarriage Christmas this year, I did a pregnancy test today and I am pregnant but I have been having some slight brown discharge for the last few days, only really when I wipe. I am terrified of losing this baby. Anything that could help?

I don’t think there’s anything you can do to prevent a miscarriage.

I had three, and on the fourth pregnancy was prescribed cyclogest and the pregnancy was successful, I think that helped.

Keeping everything crossed for you Flowers

I don't think there's anything you can do to "prevent" a miscarriage. If this is your 3rd miscarriage in a row (I hope it won't be!!) then you can get a referral to RMC for some investigations. Good luck and hope this one sticks 🤞🏼

There's nothing you can do or not do. But as a bit of a positive spin, I had the same when I was just pregnant with DS. I thought it was my period but it wasn't. Good luck Flowers

That's what I thought it was at first because for the last few months I have been spotting before my period arrives. There is very little when I wipe so I am hoping that everything will be ok this time.

When I miscarried, the doctor told me that a miscarriage is decided from the minute the egg is fertilised. It's chemical and something just hasn't worked properly at the time. Nothing you can do or did do.
I had a tricky start to my next pregnancy too and thought it would
miscarry again but my wee daughter is 4 months old now. Best of luck to you OP x

Thank you for sharing your positive stories. I have other children so I know I can be pregnant so hopefully this time it will be ok.

After an early miscarriage, I blamed myself but my gp told me that it's not something that can really be controlled, it's due to an abnormality that would've been there anyway, preventing the pregnancy progressing.

I hope you have a very happy and healthy pregnancy. Congratulations xx

Many miscarriages are due to a chromosome issue, which is determined at conception. It just takes the body a few weeks to realise there is a problem.

Good luck OP and try to carry on as normal. Xx

There’s absolutely nothing is there otherwise we would all do it, whatever IT is wouldn’t we.

It’s nothing that you do or don’t do, it’s not something you can control.

That’s it, I was told that the experts don’t know the cause of over 80% of all miscarriages.
All the best with this one.

I got pregnant 3 cycles back to back last year, first a MMC and lasted months and months and months because I tried expectation management first, next one a quick chemical pregnancy and this one where I’m now in third trimester.

If you’re miscarrying because of a reason like blood issue (eg eventually you might be told to take aspirin) or progesterone issues or NK cells, that’s one thing and you can possibly get it investigated and take a course of action to prevent a MC. But in all likelihood none of these things would have any impact because even at 2 miscarriages in a row, your chances are still that it’s a chromosomal problem with the egg or sperm and that pregnancy just isn’t viable.
I think just watch and wait and if you have 3 in a row - and fingers crossed you don’t - then it’s something that can be investigated to see if there is an underlying cause.

Just a quick update the spotting only lasted a couple of days and seemed to be around implantation. I had a little blood this morning so I went to the doctor who scanned me and everything is as would be expected this early. The doctor has put me on progesterone, high strength folic acid and calcium.

Fingers crossed for you OP. Wishing you a healthy, happy pregnancy.

Thank you Sunflower, I am cautiously optimistic although I wasn't this morning.

Glad to hear that the scan went well. Hope everything goes smoothly for the rest of your pregnancy xx

Just another small update, had another scan today my obstetrician is scanning me weekly. Baby is measuring as they should be.
