Declining induction at 42 weeks

Has anyone ever declined an induction at 42 weeks and gone into spontaneous labour the following week?

I’m currently 42 weeks and 3 days pregnant with an induction booked for Friday. I’m really hoping to avoid induction but as the days pass it’s looking less likely.

Does anyone have any positive stories?

Thanks

Have u been examined tho @Piggywiggles?
It could very well be doin something but u don't know yet.. for most people induction doesn't actually bring on labour it gets ur body to a point where your waters can be broken..

Piggywiggles · 25/02/2019 19:11

@Bigonesmallone3 when I was examined at half 1 she couldn’t quite break my waters as I wasn’t quite there. Not been examined since though 🤷‍♀️

What are you afraid of with induction?
I went over 41 weeks with my pregnancies twice and was begging for induction. It’s actually really safe and straightforward.
You are risking your baby’s life.

I'd never hold off. I know two people that had the worst possible outcome. One was in but it was so busy she kept being pushed back to make room for emergencies until it was too late :(

They are going to give me a sweep if I dont give birth by my due date which is the 8th March. I just want my baby now now now lol.
Health risks go up when the baby is past 42 weeks. So I'd deffo take an induction if offered.

Get thee on a birthing ball. Sit on nothing else. Roll your hips in a circle and gently bounce up and down. Gets the baby's head to press onto your cervix and hopefully kick-start labour. Good luck.

(Also, not having an induction is a perfectly valid choice and I'm sure you've weighed up all the risks and benefits, so don't worry about what others would do in their pregnancies- lots of scare-mongering going on here).

I had an induction booked for 42+4. DS was born at 42+1 by csection. I put on the monitor at 41+5 and scanned at 42 weeks and was due for more monitoring at 42+2.
I had been in labour since 41+1 and stayed at home until the scan at 42 weeks. Nothing dramatic happened apart from nothing really was happening, DP demanded the csection when I was fading. DS apparently was never going to exit he was too big. So if baby isn’t showing signs of being born it’s probably worth exploring why.

Oh, also rock backwards and forwards. If you feel a period type cramp when doing it, keep going.

any bouncing should be very* gentle. Stick to rocking motions if you can.

I was induced for preeclampsia at 40+3, and not happy about it, I'd only heard horror stories about inductions. I was an inpatient at that point, and the midwife I had taking my BP overnight was actually the first person to tell me a good story (in her words- "oh, I had one, it was fine"). And I had one, and mine was fine. Speedy, and not that painful (I kept thinking "oooh it's nearly sore enough to ask for pain relief") . Anyway, the point being- if you do go for the induction, it might be an easy one. Thanks

The only problem with going over is the baby will be massive! I had DD at 41+6 and she was huge and my body has never been the same. I kind of wish I'd gone for the induction at 39 weeks now.

FrozenMargarita17 · 25/02/2019 20:12

Hi OP I declined induction at 41+12 which is my local hospitals policy and I began labour on the day i would have been induced. I had to have a lecture from the midwife at the hospital but she fully accepted my refusal and I had to go for daily monitoring. I was in labour for all of this! I had a home birth planned and I also have a crippling fear of hospitals and I knew it would end up in some sort of emergency because I would stress and then my dd would have too.

It was fine.

Yes twice, I have long pregnancies and don't react well to medication, I weighed up all risks carefully and had monitoring every other day, babies were born at 42+2 and 42+4

How are you getting on @Louise2019 ?
