I am nearly 26 weeks pregnant with number 1 and my pants are driving me mad! The elastic round the top of my legs is making my skin sore and red.

Pre-pregnancy I was a size 12. I am now wearing size 16 pants (I do hope my bum isnt really that big... ) and they are still chaffing. And yes, they are 100% cotton.

Short of going commando , any ideas!

Wear your husband's undies...

clutteredup · 06/07/2007 13:01

size 18 pants?I bought big pants from primark and asda to see me through PG, i still occasionall wear them when I've run out of others - and they don't fall down

Dawn2820 · 06/07/2007 13:01

i bought some high wasted ones from M&S and they are very comfortable - only £5 for a pack of 7

winestein · 06/07/2007 13:01

Yes, buy a pair of voluminous maternity ones that go right over the bump and tuck just underneath your bra.

Or alternatively you could buy some normal maternity knickers - I got some from ASDA I think

WheresMyWaistGone · 06/07/2007 13:08

Thanks!

The trouble is not the waist bit though, but the leg holes. (...?!)

I will try DH's shorts - very good plan (also bound to fit the bump too...! ) and he is away at the mo, so at least I can do so without getting wierd looks and comments!

The whole 'voluminous maternity ones ... tuck just underneath your bra' just make me think of old men who wear their trousers up round their nipples! Such a fashion faux pas!!!

i got some huge pants off me mum for xmas (i know what a present)at the time they were too big a 16 and i have a huge butt and thighs but now im 18 wks they are so coomfy i cant thank her enough there like those hipster type shorts, they still slip down occasionally but feels like im wearing nothing at all

compared to emma jane maternity thongs i bought not only did they hurt to pull over my thighs but felt like cheese wire slcing me in half (sorry for tmi)

mad4girls · 06/07/2007 14:32

sorry mneat to say they were from asda

WingsofanAngel · 06/07/2007 14:36

You can buy a lady's version of boxers you know.

Hi wheresmywaistgone... I thought I was the only person whose pants irritated the tops of their legs! I've started buying things like boy shorts from M&S and things like that. Also check for the material around the legs, my favourite pair have a thicker edge which doesn't chafe nearly as much as lacy/elasticated/frilly bits. I probably should, but I can't quite bring myself to do the full on maternity pants thing

ziggyf · 06/07/2007 15:54

hiya

I bought some short-style pants from mothercare but they keep falling down! Also got some maternity thongs from mothercare and they are so much more comfy than my pre-pg knickers (also thongs ).

hope that helps,
ziggy x

I second the thong option; however, I normally wear them anyways. Actually, because the style of thong I wear is low anyways (hits below the bump), I continued to wear my normal underwear throughout my last pregnancy.

Cosabella make brilliant, stretchy thongs which are low slung.

Princesspowersparkle · 06/07/2007 19:32

I've been lucky enough not to have to change my pants. I wear boy shorts and they are so comfy and fit under my bump and round my legs nicely. Got them from Primark for about £1 each.
Thongs are good too, unless you get piles in which case not so good....

alasia · 07/07/2007 14:40

I wear those lacy french knicker/shorts things (you know the ones I mean?)

They've worked well for me so far, although now (at 31 weeks) they're starting to get a bit uncomfortable - then again, I AM stil wearing my pre-pregnancy size 10. Maybe I need to start on a size bigger

They're naturally resting just underneath my bump which is ok, but I find that if I sit down the waistband gets a bit uncomfortable.

I'm thinking of buying some sort of cotton boy-shorts, or something like that.

quokka · 07/07/2007 15:07

they aren't pretty but the over the bump ones are comfy! They are the only ones that saw me through 2 pregnancies.

Egg · 07/07/2007 15:09

Ones that go under the bump def worked best for me once I was getting bigger. I just carried on wearing my normal ones but made sure they were not high leg type ones.

WheresMyWaistGone · 09/07/2007 14:58

Thanks girls! MrsMar - as you say, nice to know we're not alone!

I will go and raid M&S for lacy shorts and others (DH won't know what's hit him!). I used to wear thongs / g-strings all the time but can't face them now! I must say, his shorts were great over the weekend, if a little...erm...baggy at the front...
