Do you have to have your booking in appointment at home

I'm 12 weeks pregnant. I haven't even registered with a midwife yet. My last period was 1st December and I've had positive pregnancy tests so I'm guessing around 12 weeks pregnant. I've not registered with a midwife as I'm quite nervous, mainly about being judged, it's not my first child but won't go into details as need to keep this anonymous. I am worried I'll have to have my booking in appointment at home and was wondering if I can have it in a clinic instead? Main reason is because I've not told father yet, things are not perfect and I'm worried he'll ask me to abort if he finds out now and if people ask him why midwife was seen at my house. Lots of backstory here that I don't want to go into but I'm safe and nothing serious is going on but wanted to keep this to me right now. It's took me a while to come to terms with this and that's why I've not been to see anyone. So what would happen if I requested the booking in a appointment elsewhere ?

Hi, I'm having my first booking appointment in my local children's centre then usually follow up appointments in my doctor's surgery. This is in Liverpool.

It's usually at the midwives' clinic. You could phone the gp's reception and ask how to book in and where appointments will be.

I've never had a booking in appointment at home. Do you know what the system is for getting booked into the system where you are? Do you phone a central booking line, get referred by GP, contact midwives directly? I think your best bet is to speak to someone in confidence - midwives and GPs probably better for that than whoever's running the appointment-booking line in my experience.

Mine have always been with the midwife at the GP surgery.

Usually in my area, you register with a midwife and then they come to your house and that's where they take your bloods and medical history etc. Then they refer you on for your dating scan but I prefer none of it to be done at home. I will need to ring one of the sure start centres on how to get the ball rolling as it's always changing around here

I had my booking in appointment with my first child at home, but that was 11 years ago. This time around i was fully expecting it to be at home again but it was at my local childrens centre. Even if it is common in your area to do it at home i dont see why they can't do it elsewhere and im sure if you request it then they will arrange something :)

In our area it is at hospital and other ones are at GPs. Ring your GP and ask how you self refer to midwife and then when you ring them just ask.

My midwife set up the first half in her office, then wanted to come to my home to speak to me and my DH and to ask about family history of illness etc..and to establish if ambulance can get up to house if needed. I’m sure if you explained, she would do it all where you want it but she may want to know why (not your first child so you probably already aware they ask about social services and existing children and if you have enough support etc etc) x

In my area all booking in appointments are done at home. I'm not sure what would happen if you asked to have it somewhere else instead. Just ask?

In my area you have to go to them - they don't offer booking in appointments at home.

I am sure you can easily explain to them that you cannot have an appointment at home as you need to maintain confidentiality and they will have to accommodate that.
