So I took a swab into the doctors last week for my group b strep test. I rang today got results and the receptionist said the notes on the system were that I tested negative for bacterial vaginosis... good to know but not what I was tested for?! Anyone know if the 2 are related? I’m with my midwife in the morning so will speak to her but I’m a bit annoyed, I’m almost 38 weeks! If step b is present I need to know for antibiotics!!!! Labour could start any second!!!!

Is there a particular reason you need this test? It's not standard on the nhs as the false positive rate is high, your status can change week to week or even day to day, and the likelihood of complications is extremely low (though the consequences can be quite severe).

I tested positive in my last pregnancy which ended in miscarriage. When I told them this they tested me at 37 weeks without question. They’ve just said if results are positive now I will be given IV antibiotics during labour. If I’m
Tested and results are negative I won’t require them. I know the chances of any complications are tiny but it can be very dangerous and I would rather have the IV and do anything to prevent if I know it’s likely present.
