I'm sorry for the grim topic, honestly but I'm 1st trimester and I have had Diarrhea pretty much from the start. Sometimes it's urgent and others less so. I'm constantly worried when it might strike. Usually twice a day. I can't remember having a usual movement Blush
Does anyone have / have had this. Is there anything I can do? It's mortifying.... especially at work.
On a lighter note, very happy to have a little person on board.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PMmehunx · 23/02/2019 22:16

How many weeks are you? I did have it too, can't remember how long for, in the first trimester. It just went away on its own.

If it's possible you've got a bug, see a doctor. If you're going so much you could be dehydrated, see a doctor too.

And congratulations!!

neuroticnumpty · 23/02/2019 22:20

@PMmehunx good to know yours went away.
I'm 8 weeks now and it's been happening for about 4 weeks I'd say....
I don't know what I am hoping for here. Perhaps a miracle pregnancy safe supplement.
On that note, I do have pregnacare and stopped it for a week to see if there was any improvement. If anything it was worse....

I understand that Imodium isn't recommended.
If anyone has been able to use something else I would be interested to hear about it 🙏🏻

I'd try upping your iron intake as that can sometimes have the opposite effect. Maybe ask at booking in? Do you have a midwife number yet?

KatnissMellark · 23/02/2019 22:39

Morning shitness. Totally normal. Marginally better than morning sickness.

HoldOnToHope · 23/02/2019 22:46

I also had this until around 12/13 weeks, apparently some people just have diarrhoea instead of morning sickness! I was too scared to have anything like Imodium, ended up just carrying around a bottle of VIPoo around with me for times I was caught short while out the house 🙊

wombatron · 23/02/2019 22:50

I haven't had shits as such, but for the first trimester I was going 2-4 times a day and it was loose movements each time. I had to start carrying the Andrex wipes with me as the work toilet paper was a tad rough. For me, normal was every other day. Even now at 18 weeks I can have days where it's twice a day (at least 3 or 4 times a week) but it's slightly more firmer. Pregnacare does have stool softeners in them so that could not be helping. Perhaps do as a PP has suggested and take normal supplements

You can take probiotics, which can help. If your gut flora has gone weird with the hormones it can help build it up again.

HayzCo · 24/02/2019 10:19

This is totally me! Proving v unpredictable and embarrassing! I’m going to take probiotic I got from health store for a few days. For me it seems can’t eat anything rich. I have morning sickness too so it’s been pretty horrendous! Hope you feel better soon! Xx

neuroticnumpty · 24/02/2019 10:35

Thanks for your replies everyone. It's so grim.
Is it worth a mention to the GP do you think?
Also are there recommended probiotics for pregnancy?

PMmehunx · 24/02/2019 11:22

Meh.. I used to say all this stuff was grim, then I heard about mucus plugs and everything else seemed very tame in comparison haha.

If it is bothering you a lot it's worth a mention maybe.
I have seen probiotics specifically aimed at pregnant women, but not sure if they're much different or of they're just a gimmick. Loads of things say they're for pregnant women and just charge you more for a very similar product that's half the price for people who aren't pregnant.

ItProtectsMyHead · 24/02/2019 14:18

Sounds really unpleasant, especially if you're having to cope with it at work, I really hope you feel better soon OP

I'm 7+4 and at 1am I woke up hot and shaking with a pulse of 140, which is exactly what usually happens to me right before I vomit (usually migraine induced but I figured it was morning sickness kicking in). It was so weird, I did all the pre-vomit stuff, then suddenly had to have a bowel movement really urgently and the sick feeling went away. Wasn't the worst diarrhoea ever, I just suddenly really needed to go to the toilet instead of being sick.

Those of you who have struggled with diarrhoea in the first trimester - did you have this instead of sickness or as well as sickness? I used to be severely emetophobic so tbh that would be a bit more bearable

neuroticnumpty · 24/02/2019 20:18

@ItProtectsMyHead the same thing happens to me! This would be one of my urgent occasions. There are other times that can wait.
Weird how much I just want bathroom habits to return to normal.

HoldOnToHope · 24/02/2019 20:48

@ItProtectsMyHead I got it instead of morning sickness. Fingers crossed you also manage to avoid sickness! 🤞🏼

neuroticnumpty · 25/02/2019 06:43

@HoldOnToHope so far so good! I do get a lot of nausea and I'm off food but no actual sickness.
Fingers crossed for you too x
