Hi,

I am currently 6 weeks pregnant. I’ve bwen suffering from terrible morning sickness for the past week. I also have a 18 month old so I’m struggling really struggling. I went doctors and was prescribed cycziline. I didn’t want to take it but this morning I had enough and caved in and took it. I took it at 8am,I stopped being sick but still felt nauseous. I fell asleep at 10am and woke up and 2pm and felt drowsy the majority of the day. Luckily my oh is off work so he took care of our son but he has to go back to work on Monday. Has anybody else taken it and felt extremely drowsy and sleepy? Will that pass? The dr said to take 3 times a day but I would only like to take it once or twice.

I started taking it at week 8 and I found 2 tablets a day working for me (morning and evening), I'm still nauseous in the morning but vomitting has mostly stopped and I can eat quite well (whereas without it I couldn't eat anything apart from crackers). The drowsiness got better after about a week but I am always tired (more to do with the general pregnancy tiredness I think). I'm week 18 now and I tried dropping to just 1 pill a day but that only made the vomitting and sickness come back right away - so sticking with 2 for a while to come I guess.

I took it and it made me very drowsey too so was swapped to Prochlorperazine; which was much better. Cyclizine is an antihistamine so it can often have this effect. If I were you I would ask to switch to something else

When I was pregnant with both my children I experienced morning sickness and took the advice of an Indian author to combat it naturally
I used raspberry leaf tablets, as I was working as a teacher during my pregnancy.
Although my nausea seemed quite strong before starting on the tablets, it completely disappeared once I had begun. When I cut the tablets in two with a sharp knife to examine the contents, they simply contained the actual raspberry leaves packed inside the outer covering!
Look online for the research about the safety of this herbal remedy. This is a herb with centuries of safe use behind it, there is usually little cause for concern.
Below is a link to a page with information about raspberry leaf and its effects on enabling an easier birth experience.

@nourrice I think it really depends on how sick you are as to whether something like this will help. Will both my babies I was sick so many times a day that I regularly vomitted blood. I couldn't even keep water down never mind tea. Sometimes these drugs literally save lives, and in many cases they make life a tiny bit more bearable until you are out of this horrible phase; which in skme cases ends at the birth of the baby. I was encouraged to "eat regularly", "eat before getting out of bed" and "try ginger" but the people suggesting this just didn't understand the scale of the sickness. Saying that, I'm really glad you found something that helped you x

I took cyclizine once or twice a day throughout my pregnancy from 7 weeks and I think I had the wooziness to start with. The doctors tried to change me to metoclopramide towards the end of my pregnancy but I felt so much more dizzy on that so I asked to be changed back to the cyclizine. I hope you feel more human soon, congratulations on your pregnancy too!
