GD advice please

I'm 21 weeks weeks pregnant with my first child, no diabetes in the family and no other known risk factors.

At 20 weeks I had a MW check up and was told I have low ketones, that this is likely fine and to eat and drink more.

At the 20 week scan the baby was well and measuring middling for everything apart from belly - 93rd percentile. Was told this didn't require further scans.

My worry is that both of those can be GD signs. But I generally feel well, apart from maybe being thirstier (but then, it is warmer!).

My next MW appointment isn't for 4 weeks and the glucose test is later still, at 28 weeks (automatic in my trust for anyone 'high risk').

My question is: do I just wait to be seen in due course, and any GD will get picked up as and when, or should I try and get tested sooner? Is there a benefit to getting GD under control at 22 weeks as opposed to, say, 28 weeks? I'm having a c-section anyway so the baby's size in terms of birth isn't such a huge worry, though preterms labour obviously is!

Would be really grateful for any thoughts from those who've been there.

Has there ever been sugars in your urine?

What puts you at "High Risk"? Could this impact on your likelihood of GD too? I think sometimes it can't be detected early which is why they wait, but you could call on Monday and explain and they may test you early x

High risk is because of three losses in quick succession last year and PCOS. I guess the PCOS can be a factor?

I got diagnosed with GD at 12 weeks, in this pregnancy and the last so testing early isn't an issue.

If you have any concerns you should give your midwife a phone, or your GP and ask for fasting blood tests to be done.

If you can't get blood tests or the glucose test done before 28 weeks and you are still concerned then I suggest lowering the amount of white carbs you eat, which is what they would tell you to do if you had GD.

I was told my DD measured normal on her scan except for her belly which measured much bigger too. She was born perfectly in proportion, a tiny 6lb 4. Scans are so inaccurate! Been told the same with this baby too, so I'll wait and see 😊
