Pregnant after 2 x LLETZ treatments for Cervical Cancer, advised I will need a "Surgical Suture" by 9 weeks?

Hello Ladies,

I had two of lots of LLETZ a couple of years ago to remove Cervical Cancer.

I am currently nearly 6 weeks pregnant, my oncologists consultant advised my IVF clinic that I will need a "Surgical Suture" put in by 9 weeks.
I would love to hear from anyone else who has had this done?

At how many weeks did you have it put in?
How often did they scan you?
How many weeks did you get to in your pregnancy?
When did they remove your stitch?

Was it uncomfortable?

Sounds silly but if you were to god forbid have a miscarriage if you have had a stitch put in would you not be able to tell because you would not bleed etc?

Also I am due to have my annual smear end of April, will they still do it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, many thanks xxx

Can't answer all of your questions, but no they can't do a smear during pregnancy as the hormones can give some radically unrepresentative results.

Hiya, I refused the procedure (after having the same lletz procedure you've had) as the cons outweighed the pros for me. They wanted me to have one after DS1 was born at 33 weeks but then I found out if I went into spontaneous labour they have to remove the stomach pretty damn quick or else everything's rips open or the baby can get into real trouble. Just read everything you can before you decide

I should add I went onto have a 39 week pregnancy and went into spontaneous labour the day before my planned section as DD was in a breach position no one could fathom. Ended up an emergency section but if I'd had the stitch throngs would have got nasty

Hi, also joining to see replies. I’ve had one LLETZ but hoping everything is OK. Going for a cervical length scan at 16 weeks.

The only thing I know for sure is they can’t do a smear whilst pregnant. I have notes recommending a postnatal smear.

Sure thing @positivethinkingrainbow. I’m a little ahead of you. 12+3 today. 16 week cervical scan at end of March. Secretly pleased because they will do another check on baby too so I get another little peek before 20 weeks.

Fingers crossed there’s enough of me left not to need any stitches or procedures!

Hoping everything goes well for you too!

I've had one LLETZ and didn't need a stitch but I had a smear around 8 weeks pregnant and they told me it's fine to do in pregnancy?

Should I doubt the results?

And congrats on your pregnancy Smile

Hello!
Just an update @PositiveThinkingRainbow I had my 12 week scan yesterday and asked them to measure my cervix length which was actually abnormally long at 6cm! I think anything under 2.5cm is a worry.
I see the obs in 3 weeks and am assuming they will re-measure then and make a plan.
From your original post, I think you should be due you cerclage pretty soon? Let me know how you are getting on!

Hello
@Lou0712 That is brilliant news about you long cervix, who knew it would extra long ;)

I had my appointment with my obstetrician and a 9 week scan fingers all looking well. They have advised that because of the length of my cervix and expecting twins that it would be risky for them to just monitor me so I am booked at 13 weeks to have a stitch put in!!

Will let you know how I get on xxx

@PositiveThinkingRainbow Ooh I didn't know you were expecting twins - how exciting! Definitely sounds like the best option for you is to have it put in. I hope it goes well, do keep me updated! xx
