Can I blag a gender scan at 15+3?

Hi guys! I'm the most impatient woman in the world and I absolutely cannot wait to see my little baby again and find out the gender. I'm booked in for Window to the Womb soon but I'll only be 15+3 and they say 16 weeks onwards.. but surely there's not that much difference?! Anyone had experience with this?

Just wait, it isn’t that much of a surprise it will be a boy or a girl. Waiting will mean it is more likely to be accurate. Also I had to take my notes with me when I had a private scan so they knew my dates,

MadameJosephine · 18/02/2019 10:38

I work at a private clinic and at ours we date the pregnancy first. If you are close to 16 weeks it’s at the sonographer’s discretion whether they tell you the sex or not but if they do it’s on the proviso that it is likely to be less accurate that if you were over 16 weeks. They could ask you to come back when you are over 16 weeks

Have you thought about getting one of these? You can find out from 9 weeks

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 18/02/2019 10:42

Yes, I'm going to be that person....

It's sex, not gender.

ourkidmolly · 18/02/2019 10:51

Why don't you rebook for 4 days later? Am I missing something? Then you don't need to blag anything.

bobstersmum · 18/02/2019 10:57

I think you will be fine. Your baby doesn't suddenly grow a penis or vagina in the four days before 16 weeks.

PandoraJack · 18/02/2019 11:01

I was booked in for a gender scan with Window to the Womb for 16 weeks exactly, however my dating scan changed my due date back a day, so the scan then fell on 15 weeks 6 days. I assumed this wouldn't matter as it was one day, but called them to check and had to rebook to a later date as they said the 16 week rule was non-negotiable. They also ask you to bring your hospital notes so they'd presumably see your due date and therefore see you weren't at 16 weeks yet.

AngeloMysterioso · 18/02/2019 11:27

@ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets I was gonna be that person too...

Darkstar4855 · 18/02/2019 12:11

The longer you wait, the more accurately they can tell the sex of your baby. If you can’t wait then why not phone them and ask how strict they are? But if it’s too early to tell then you might have to pay again for a repeat scan.

Gobletoffire · 18/02/2019 12:15

It’s only 4 days, I would wait. At the clinic I went to they would check your dates first and if you were under 16 weeks they wouldn’t proceed with the scan and would book you back in, so could be a waste of time trying.

BrendaUrie · 18/02/2019 12:18

Sex. Not gender.

BrendaUrie · 18/02/2019 12:18

Can't you rebook for a week after

iMum · 18/02/2019 12:20

Sex.

bobstersmum · 18/02/2019 12:21

What's all this sex not gender bollocks?

BrendaUrie · 18/02/2019 12:27

Bob gender is a social construct. Sex is a biological fact.

Finding out whether your child is male or female is finding out their sex. Not gender.

BrendaUrie · 18/02/2019 12:29

Using the word gender wrongly is skewing people's view on biological sex. It's not the same thing.

Celebelly · 18/02/2019 12:42

Someone in our Feb group got one done at 15 weeks and it turned out to be wrong, so I would just wait tbh.

Gobletoffire · 18/02/2019 12:55

I do agree that the word sex should be used instead of gender, however at the two private clinics near me on their website etc they are called ‘gender scan’, not sex scan.

KateGrey · 18/02/2019 12:58

I’d probably be more interested if my baby was healthy at the scan rather than be so interested in the sex.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 18/02/2019 14:47

I’ve been for 4 private scans across both pregnancies and never been asked to bring my notes. Why would they need them? Private scans aren’t medical appointments and I’d have been v Hmm if they’d asked for my nhs notes for a sexing scan.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 18/02/2019 14:53

Clinics use the word gender because people get funny about saying sex.
But the distinction is important, especially now.

OP, I'd wait. 4 days. It seems like no time at all but when you are looking at a tiny baby, it makes a difference.

Beckanne90 · 18/02/2019 17:33

I was 15+3 by my NHS dates but I knew that wasn’t correct as I’d have only been 5 days from ovulation when I found out I was pregnant. I was 16 exactly by my own dates. When I had my scan baby measured 16+1 so around the dates I had expected. Had I known though I was definitely less than 16, I wouldn’t have booked it just to be safe, 4 days isn’t much longer to wait.

explodingkitten · 18/02/2019 17:41

I was 13+3 when they saw it was a girl. It was in an academic hospital though, I don't know if they're equipment is better or not.

MadameJosephine · 18/02/2019 21:14

@PennyMordauntsLadyBrain unfortunately occasionally fetal abnormalities or missed miscarriages can be detected at private scan appointments and in those circumstances it’s useful to bring your notes so the sonographer can make appropriate referrals. Also if I dated a pregnancy and the dates were way off the dates given in your notes i might want to refer you for further investigation

sh13 · 18/02/2019 21:42

Who gives a crap wether she said Sex or gender as if people actually get offended by that these days Confused
