Did a maternity pillow help you sleep on your side?

Just that really. I used to sleep on my side but the last few years I sleep on my back. I think it's because I would get pins and needles in my arm that would wake me. I have read it's better to sleep on your side when pregnant so want to try start asap so it's easier in later pregnancy

I slept loads better with a pregnancy pillow, I have lower back problems so it was a huge help to have my whole body supported

NeverStopExploring · 17/02/2019 07:49

@cindersrella did you go for the v smaller ones of full size body ones if you don’t mind me asking?

I tried with a v pillow was it wasn't enough and extra pillows just got lost in the night, I ended up making my own out of a old single duvet. I just rolled it up and sewed a single cover to be about 12inches. I have such bad hip pain when I sleep I couldn't cope without it now.

I sleep on my front and have found the only way I can sleep on my side is with pregnancy pillow. Mine is a 12 foot one and I basically wrap it round my entire body so cuddle the front and then wedge it round my back so I can’t roll onto my back.
My husband hates it!! Takes up too much room, but I love it and couldn’t wait to get it out the loft when pregnant with DC2!

I have a dreamgenii and I love it. It's squidgy enough that it doesn't put pressure on my bump and I can get it into whatever position I need, and firm enough to give support where I need it. I have a second pillow to support my lower legs when I roll over, (at which point the main part of the dreamgenii only reaches my knees) so I don't have to reposition the entire pillow. Hasn't cause a problem for DH, though we do have quite a big bed.

I do still have some trouble with my lower hip after I've been lying on one side for an hour. We've layered up 3 duvets on top of the mattress which is helping, but I think I need one more. Really should have just bought a mattress topper...

I had a dream genie and hated it. Been using a £10 wedge pillow from morhercare (via amazon) and it's been amazing

amrscot · 17/02/2019 19:11

I've had my pillow a few weeks and I LOVE it! Never slept better. It was only a cheap one from eBay as well

By the time you need to stop sleeping on your back, you’ll be too uncomfortable to sleep on your back anyway so you’ll naturally move on to your side. I’m a back sleeper but couldn’t have slept on my back if I’d tried in the third trimester in all 3 pregnancies. Honestly you don’t need to practice side sleeping in advance, in my experience it happens naturally as any other position is too uncomfortable.

Yep helping a lot. I’m a stomach sleeper have found a sweet spot that’s slightly to the front but not squishing bump. It’s the only way I can get a decentish sleep.

I have a chicco total body one and absolutely love it!!

HJWT · 17/02/2019 20:53

I am only 4 weeks and already looking forward to purchasing a pillow!! DH hated it last time but we have a bigger bed now so hopefully he won't moan to much 😁

Its so nice to snuggle into on your side! Xx

Of course! During this hard situation maternity pillows helps more comfortable sleep and makes pain relief nights. You can check here www.sanggol.co.uk/ pregnancy pillows supporting back, neck, belly and legs.

A maternity pillow is a god send for sleeping on your side.

Currently 31 weeks and have had rib/nerve pain since around 20 weeks and the least painful position for me in lying on my back, which I'm obviously not supposed to do.

The maternity pillow stops me being able to do it easily and makes sleeping more comfy in general but you probably don't need to practice, enjoy sleeping however you want for now!

I've had a dream genii one since about 14 weeks. I'm now 36 weeks. I didn't really get on with it initially until I had a proper bump around 25 weeks. Since then it's been ok as I generally sleep on my front or back. I generally go to sleep on my left side then when I wake up for the loo and food turn it into the right side which does me for another few hours, then do the final few hours on my back or occasionally front. I know people say "you're not going to want to sleep on your back in the third trimester etc" but I still find it comfortable so do it for about a third of the night as I'd rather get sleep than not get sleep at this stage. Baby is v v v active and I've been seen twice a month (and now once a week) throughout the pregnancy so don't think I am putting myself or baby in danger. Just do what you think is right for you.

I could sleep on back before. I got one of the big 'U' shaped pillows. I love it so much and never want to give it up haha
