PCOS and/or endo and miscarriage

After just over a year of trying, we appear to finally have succeeded - I am the proud owner of two faint positive FRERs. However, now my mind has moved to the next problem - keeping it.

I know that risk of miscarriage is high anyway this stage, but I also have endo and PCOS. I knew the associated risk of miscarriage was higher, but read some statistics last night that freaked me out.

Is there anything I can/should do at this point? I'm only just 4wks...any doctor will laugh me out the room, surely? Or just some positive stories might help.

It's taken so long for this one...I can't help thinking that it might never happen again. I'm trying to be cool about it, but failing miserably.

I tested today when I promised myself I wouldn't. Line is still there, but almost non-existent, so I think I'm looking at a chemical. I know it's really common, but it took so long to get here. I was ok about it when I went in the shower, but now I'm sitting on the bath mat trying not to cry, and I am about to go out and meet my 14 weeks pregnant friend....

Try not to worry. It might all be fine. Please put the tests down. All sorts of things can make a fainter line and it doesn’t always mean bad news. I promise you not good will come from testing all the time you will just upset yourself. Have faith in what will be.

I have had three early miscarriages and the first time one I tested constantly and it made it a lot harder.

Fingers crossed all will be fine for you x

Hello flyingplum, didn't want to read and run.

I'm sorry for your MC and that you're in that tumultuous, worrisome place at the moment. Hang in there!

I have PCOS too, had 3 losses in 2018 (between 5-12 weeks) followed, finally, by a successful pregnancy in October 2018, which is now at 20 weeks.

First thing's first - pregnancy tests at this early stage can vary and can throw up slightly different results depending on brand (and therefore sensitivity), how hydrated you are and whether you're testing with FMU or not. Even if you're certain that everything is identical between tests, and that you're testing correctly (i.e. on looking after the designated time only, not much later than guidelines) - the manufacturers still say that the faintness of the line doesn't count for anything. It's the line itself that matters. hCG levels do vary massively between women, if you have a look at hCG charts by week online, the ranges are quite big. All of that probably isn't much consolation, but do keep it in mind.

With PCOS there is, unfortunately, from what I've read, an increased risk of MC. I have never been able to get to the bottom of exactly why that is though, apart from vague theories about hormone imbalance and inflammation. GP not much help either. This pregnancy, I have been taking 'baby aspirin' daily, and still am. It seems to have worked, even though studies show mixed results and inconclusive proof. If you read up on it, you can talk to your GP/MW about it.

In my case, I was so desperate I started taking it straight away on finding out and then told the GP after about 2 weeks. She wasn't keen on it, because it can cause excessive bleeding in the mother, and stuff like stomach ulcers, but I carried on anyway because she agreed I had no known pre-existing conditions that would make this particularly dangerous and that it can be administered in pregnancy. At 14 weeks the obsthetric consultant said it's fine to keep taking, mixed results but can't hurt and agreed it might have helped. So I still am. I'll never quite know whether this is what helped or whether, finally, my body just got into gear and finally produced a viable embryo. But it's worth thinking about.

Hope it all turns out well for you and do come back on here as you go trough this, there always someone around.

Hold on a minute, where did I get the MC from?! Sorry! I had imagined you were pregnancy again after one. Duly retracted and even more cause to be optimistic!!!

Thanks guys.

@Holly5633 - the no testing is good advice. I know it too, it was just hard to resist. I haven't got anymore, and haven't bought new ones. We will just have to see. I think I have the start of my period, so am watching a film and trying to be pragmatic. I am not going to let myself test again ever until I'm well past my period. The hope has been horrible. I thought I'd be much cooler about the whole thing.

@StargazyDrifter - thanks for the advice. There seems to be so much vague information about it. How is it possible that we know so much about bloody Male erectile dysfunction and next to nothing about female reproductive disorders. And they say science is objective...

Really appreciate the pep talk, this is a great place sometimes.
