Cervical Cerclage

Hi,

Looking for some advise re cervical cerclage.

This is my 1st pregnancy and I went to see my gynaecologist privately at 6 weeks pregnant as have had 2 LLETZ procedures in the past. He told me that due to the fact I have had 24mm of cervix removed, I will need to have a stitch put in early 2nd trimester.

I contacted my midwife about this and she has reluctantly booked me in to see an obs at 14 weeks. Is this soon enough?? And will they be able to book me in for the cerclage quickly after that?
I have my booking in appointment next week so will discuss with the midwife then but I am concerned as all my research says it is best to have a preventative cerclage put in at 13 weeks and my hospital are telling me it's done at 16 weeks.

My gynaecologist warned me that obs tend to like to do scans instead of putting in a preventative stitch but that I must insist due to the amount I have had removed from cervix.

Wondering if it is worth seeing a private obstetrician to get some advice sooner rather than later.

Anyone else had a stitch and can give me some advice??

Thanks!

I just had mine today and I was almost 22 weeks. My cervix length was 1.3cm and I was starting to dilate. It went well! It is uncomfortable but it wasnt terrible. And I feel much better knowing it is there. They typically will not do one past 24 weeks due to increasing complications, triggering contractions and infection being the most problematic.

If you have a strong cervix (not yet soft) and can find someone to do it, its just my opinion, but I would. If you wait too long they cannot do the stitch! You can also try progesterone suppositories and a device that is placed in the vaginal (the name escapes me) that changes the angle of your cervix so there is less direct pressure from the uterus.

This was my first cerclage. It was caught a week prior and I was monitored but was still loosing length so we decided to do the surgery. I am pleased so far but very cautious still. I didnt feel we had another option.
