Hospital bag-what am I missing?

Hi all

Can I have you recommendations for what to put in my hospital bag?
I'm going in to be induced this weekend, and I'm well aware that it can take a while. So, I have a few days of comfy clothes, plus a few pairs of PJs/nighties (incase c-section, kept in for a while). I've also got some toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, moisturiser, brush, bobbles, face wipes, Vaseline)
For baby-nappies, cotton wool, a few vests and baby grows. I'm planning on BF, but the hospital provide formula if it's needed.
Plus a few T-shirt's/underwear for DH and snacks. Just incase it's busy I'll bring in my birthing ball too.
The car seat will be in the car.

The hospital is 2 hours away from our house so we won't just be able to nip home if we've forgotten anything, but there are shops close by.
Am I missing anything obvious?

Pads
Slippers/flipflops
Portable fan (i had my son during a heatwave and that fan was a lifesaver)

Winterfellismyhome · 15/02/2019 11:35

Hat for baby

Bigonesmallone3 · 15/02/2019 11:36

Moisturisers, lip balm, pads, big knickers

DannyWallace · 15/02/2019 11:36

Thanks both!
Yes I have all of those packed too (except flip flops and a fan. Might at least try to get some as they could be handy!!)

Nipple cream

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 15/02/2019 11:37

Book /magazines. Baby might sleep but you might be too hyper!!

burritofan · 15/02/2019 11:38

Breast pads and maternity pads?

(Haven't had my baby yet, following for tips but those are on my list! Also need the bag itself... 😂)

DownWentTheFlag · 15/02/2019 11:38

Some of those Andrex wet wipes. Tissues. Lip balm. Toothbrush/toothpaste. Phone charger. Thermal mug or water bottle.

norbert23 · 15/02/2019 11:40

A huge dairy milk

DannyWallace · 15/02/2019 11:42

Yes chocolate!!
I was ravenous after a long birth and breastfeeding!

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 15/02/2019 11:43

A fleece blanket. Hospital bedding is awful!!

homegrownmumma · 15/02/2019 11:43

Water bottle with a straw , absolute essential in my opinion

Anyat212 · 15/02/2019 11:45

I’m in the process of wanting to get mine organised too! It’s my first but my friend told me to buy a small jug to use for warm water when going for a wee as you’ll be sore. Paracetamol was her next suggestion after birth as the midwives etc are really busy.

I’m definitely talking a huge bar of dairy milk too - great suggestion Norbert!

Merchantgirl · 15/02/2019 11:48

Lip balm
Hand cream
Ear plugs
Energy drinks
Small mirror
Phone charger
Change for vending machines
Snacks

Winterfellismyhome · 15/02/2019 11:53

Oh i also took my own pillow!

norbert23 · 15/02/2019 11:54

I'm glad I've found my people! Chocolate is a life saver and nobody can judge you nailing the entire thing! Also seconding the paracetamol - a nurse went to get some for me and I never saw her again... they're all really busy.

WeeDangerousSpike · 15/02/2019 12:01

Non fizzy sports drink (flat lucozade stuff) in a sports bottle. Gives you energy and can drink it lying down.

Paracetamol for DH. I did not want to be hearing 'I've got a headache/toothache/backache' between contractions.
Flannel. For washing/being cold on your face. Hospitals are hot and labour is sweaty.

PRoseLegend · 15/02/2019 12:06

I didn't end up using half the stuff i packed.
But i did wish i'd packed more underwear.
And definitely bring a portable speaker and load up your phone with your "birthing" playlist, whatever music helps you stay as calm as possible.
Also bring earplugs and an eye mask as it can be hard to sleep in hospital.

DannyWallace · 15/02/2019 12:37

Thank you all so so much. Great advice!!
If anyone thinks of anything else please let me know 😀😀

@PRoseLegend funny you say that....I've counted 12 pairs of pants in my bag 😂. Hopefully that'll be enough!!

Apparently lucozade glucose tablets are great if you're running low on energy!

outpinked · 15/02/2019 13:18

Don’t forget nipple cream. Get lansinoh and start to put it on from day one. It works as a barrier cream from the off. Snacks and lucozade sport!

Mittens and hats?
