NT Scan Advice

Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light. I attended for my dating scan recently and also to have the NT test done too, however I was measuring 11+1 so have been asked to come back in 2 weeks to have this done when baby is a little bigger. I asked the radiographer if it was now ok to tell people our news, and although she said people tend to wait until they have the results of the NT, I was a little confused as she said we wouldn't have the results for over a month (as the scan is in 2 weeks and the results take another 2 weeks to come in). I was under the impression you would get results there and then?

This is my first pregnancy so it's all new to me! Any advice would be appreciated😊 thanks!

I got blood done and found out within a week as low risk. If high risk 2-4 days. But as my son has too much water behind necks told me when had it done big change high risk . And which it did so had non vasive test nearly £400. Just for him to not have Down's syndrome or the other two .

It's really up to you when you tell people. At the scan you'll be told your NT measurement. You'll have the beginnings of an idea as to whether things are likely to be ok from there. To be honest though, as someone that had a very high NT measurement in one pregnancy I wanted to tell people anyway as I needed the support.

They say 2 weeks for the results of the combined test but you do get a call within 2-4 days if you are high risk. In every low risk pregnancy I've had to chase up the results of the tests as I've never received a letter from the hospital. The one with the high NT measurement I was told immediately there was something wrong,

Long winded way of saying that there's no right or wrong and you must do what's right for you XX

It definitely doesn't take 2 weeks to get results unless the Healthcare Trust you are with are understaffed/behind on work? Are you in England?

I had my 12 week scan yesterday - where they do the measurement and tell you there and then what it is but apparently this needs to be read in conjunction with the blood results for the risk number.

I also had my bloods done at the same time and was told they would inform me by phone in 5-7 days for those results.

At the scan they tell you the nuchal measurement, but the reliability of the test is much higher when combined with the bloods. Same as PPs, I was told that I would get a phone call within 2 days if the combined NT+ blood results were high-risk, and if they were low-risk I'd get a letter in about two weeks. I think it took slightly less than that for my letter to arrive. I took the approach that if I didn't hear anything within 2 days, that was enough reassurance to tell people.

Thank you ladies for your replies, that helps clear things up😊 I guess we will begin telling people!
