Gender Scan

I'm going for an early gender scan on Monday and I'm wondering what other people's experiences of these are?
I booked this mainly because waiting 8wks between 12 & 20 week scan sent my anxiety through the roof and also because I'd like to know if I'm having a boy or a girl so I can start to get everything sorted.... I have no preference whatsoever, happy and healthy is all I ask, don't we all.

I'm just intrigued to hear other people's experiences 😊😊😊

I found out early with my second. I was a little more eager that time round. However, it made the second half of pregnancy go a little bit slower than my first pregnancy in my opinion. I think that's purely because if you're lucky enough to find out at the anomaly scan it's pretty much half way. Doesn't make THAT much difference but if you have anxiety, nothing is stopping you. This time I'll find out (hopefully) at my 20 week anomaly scan but that's never promised as we all know.

Good Luck, and enjoy shopping Smile

I had an 18 week gender scan on Tuesday 12th feb for the exact same reason you say..... I just couldn't wait between 12 and 20 scan!

I was over the moon when we saw our little boy wriggling away, was such an amazing time for us. We experienced a Mmc in April last year, hence the anxiety.

We only have 2 weeks to wait until our 20 week anomaly scan now and that's helping to reassure me. If you can afford it then why not, especially if it helps ease your worries/stress :)

We paid £39 for our JustGender scan at ultrasound direct. You only get 10 minutes but didn't feel quick and she showed us our little boy in 4d too, which was a bit scary 😂

We waited until 23 weeks due to DH working away (something to look forward to) and it was the most in depth and informative scan we’ve had ( onn4 weekly growth scan with NHS, but our area won’t tell you sex) Pointed out everything to us not just the potty shot! And great photos too

I had an early gender scan at 16+3 it was super obvious that he was indefinitely a he, so there was no doubts but the place did say if they couldn’t see clearly and weren’t sure we’d be rescanned the next week which was reassuring (wouldn’t be a waste of money).

They were really in-depth and keen to get good pictures and let us see loads, we were aloud 4 people with me in the room so I had dp, dm and dgm (dgm had never seen an ultrasound besides a printed picture so I knew she’d love it). The sonographer pointed out everything she could and more, put the 4d on which we hadn’t paid the extra for guaranteed pictures in 4d as I knew at that stage they’re still skinny and not like a plump proper baby baby.

We definitely weren’t rushed, I think we were in for about 30minutes and during that time to get the best look they had me half empty and empty my bladder properly even though we’d seen the gender within 2 minutes and they were running behind with the booked slots. If you want to know I’d definitely recommend going, I know our areas nhs is a bit hit and miss with genders at the 20week scan. Some midwifes are super enthusiastic and want you to be really excited and enjoy your appointments others are just in the it’s a medical appointment to check they’re healthy mode. And my 20week sonographer was lovely she actually took a shot of just his feet specifically for my dm, she loves little tiny baby feet and this is her first grandchild but that was luck of the draw.

Do you need to drink lots of water before hand? I haven't had any info to advise me to do so. I'll be 16+6 on the day of the scan.

I had one with this pregnancy- I was finding it hard to deal with the idea of 2 dc so thought finding out the sex would help things click more.

We went at 16 weeks on the dot and it was very obvious dc was a boy. Getting to see him outside of a diagnostic context was great as well, without the worry and anxiety of the anomaly scan.
