So found out on Friday I am pregnant 3+2 today. I had gestational Diabetes with DD and know I probably will have it this time...

Anyone else want to join me on this journey 😁

Hello I'll join you I'm pregnant with dc2 as well. I had GD in first preganancy

I had GD test the other week at 16 weeks I passed but was borderline so my midwife has advised I try and be careful with diet as otherwise I might develop it by next test in a month

Eek!

Goodbye crunchy nut cornflakes x

Bunnybaubles · 12/02/2019 23:38

Hi can I join too. I'm 17 weeks today, I had GD last year with DD and diagnosed at 12 weeks again.

I'm already on metformin 1000mg with my evening meal and find out on Thursday if I have to start using the Lantis injections. I ended up on a lit of medication last time and looks like it's going the same way again!

SassehMonsta · 13/02/2019 12:22

24+5 weeks here, 2nd pregnancy. managed the GD last time by diet alone.... This time, not so lucky. Currently on 1000mg metformin with dinner, 4 units novarapid (fast insulin) 15 mins before dinner, and 12 units of Humulin (slow insulin) at bedtime.

It's going up and up and up this medication business! Very fed up already, and will need a lot more insulin to get me to the end.

Hello ladies. FTM 30+3 today and got told I have GD about 4 weeks ago.

My sugar reading were really high for the first two weeks but then I got put on 500mg of Metformin twice a day but I've put myself on a strict controlled diet and been doing loads of walking that the diabetes midwife today told me that if this is the same by the end of the week I can hopefully be put on 500mg just once a day. will still have to be induced thought -_-

SassehMonsta · 13/02/2019 12:31

Good luck! Have you checked out the gestational diabetes mums uk facebook page? They have great diet tips and advice, including GD friendly brownies and cheesecake so you don't feel left out! Also diet plans etc.

I have my gtt test on Monday so may be joining you ladies.

Hopefully not in the nicest possible way though Grin

OneMoreWish · 13/02/2019 21:21

@HJWT my midwife told me at one of my appointments that if I got gd then eating little and often isn't actually that good for gd but I can't remember her reasoning for it - something to do with sugar levels.. I can't remember from last time this advice but maybe others can advise if they have heard this or not? Xx

Boobahs · 13/02/2019 21:33

I'm 26 weeks tomorrow with my second and had GD with my first. I passed the early GTT at 16 weeks which I was shocked at, but have a feeling that I'm not going to be as lucky this time Confused

I had to have Metformin and overnight insulin last time as my fasting levels couldn't be controlled but I did really well with post-meal ones due to following the GD UK Moms FB diet.

Boobahs · 13/02/2019 21:36

Forgot to add, the advice given to me by the NHS diabetes team was the complete opposite to what kept my levels down! I had to pack peanut butter, cheese, oatcakes and cream to take to hospital while I was being induced as I couldn't tolerate any of the food offered, even the "diabetic menu" (orange juice, cereal, toast, pasta Hmm)

HJWT · 14/02/2019 06:30

@OneMoreWish at the moment until I am told I defo have it, its more about trying to not get hungry because if I do ill eat anything I can get my hands on 🤭😂

@Boobahs with my first DD I also took my own bits in, i remember being forced to nibble on a digestive biscuit when I was in the 'transition' stage and wanting to punch the midwife in the throat 😬😭

I'm just coming up to 38 weeks, so hopefully coming to the end of my GD journey but just wanted to say OneMoreWish that your midwife is definitely wrong! Little and often is the best way to eat for GD as it keeps blood sugars stable rather than producing big spikes like large meals can. Also if you leave too long between eating your body dumps glucose into your blood stream for energy. I eat every 2-3 hours and have never had a high reading in 10 weeks...

I'd also highly recommend the gestationaldiabetesuk website - it has literally been a lifesaver for me!

HJWT · 15/02/2019 17:51

@MonkeyToucher ah good luck 😁 are they letting you go naturally or are they inducing you ? Xx

Boobahs · 15/02/2019 21:03

That's my second GTT done. Let's see what the results say on Monday Hmm

@Boobahs - how did it go?

HJWT · 19/02/2019 11:36

Hows everyone feeling? I did a big shop yesterday lots of healthy snacks 😭

OP posts:
MonkeyToucher · 19/02/2019 14:36

HJWT because I've managed to stay diet controlled they are letting me go naturally, unless there's no sign of her by 40+6 at which point we will talk about induction. My son came naturally at 39+2 so hopefully this one will be a bit early too!

Boobahs · 20/02/2019 09:01

Hi all, no phone call so looks like I've escaped! Smile I'm shocked to be honest, it's not like me to have such good luck! I hope you all get on ok, it's tough but baby will be completely and utterly worth it xx

HJWT · 20/02/2019 18:07

@Boobahs brilliant ! 😁

dellabrew · 20/02/2019 18:57

Hi, I've been diagnosed too, am 33+1 with my first baby. Have been diet controlled so far and mostly ok, only a few slightly high readings in the mornings and after breakfast which is great but....had a growth scan this week and the baby is enormous :( bit nervous to say the least, they are talking about inducing me at 37 weeks, but having another growth scan in 2 weeks to see if they will need to or not. Feel quite gutted about it as I've been SO good and really careful with what I eat etc...but it still hasnt made a difference!

HJWT · 20/02/2019 22:03

@dellabrew don't worry to much sweet! You could just have big baby's anyway, my whole family has babys always over 8LB 😁

They told me DD was 6LB on a growth scan 6 days later when I was induced she was 8LB 9 😩 they aren't always 100% accurate xx

OP posts:
SassehMonsta · 21/02/2019 10:22

Hurrah boobahs!

Don't panic - growth scans are notorious for being inaccurate. 37 weeks is full term and baby should theoretically have no issues once they arrive. I was diet controlled from 28 weeks last time round and baby was full term and 6lb 8oz. The risks are more of placenta failing the further you go with uncontrolled sugars I think!

Della, have you checked out the gestational diabetes mums uk facebook page or website? There is a wealth of information on there to do with diet pairing of foods and good tips and tricks - drink plenty of water, take a walk after eating, things to pair with your carbs to help keep bloods under control.

Worst comes to the worst, then you may end up on medication, but its only short term and totally for yours and baby's health - I have now come to terms with this after a few weeks of crying about it all.

SassehMonsta · 21/02/2019 10:43

I a post yesterday that inspired this:

I am currently "outsourcing my pancreatic responsibility" to 2 types of insulin and some metformin. :)
