38+3 and burnt my bump

Bit of a PSA and a bit of hand hold. Just to make clear as well this was a few hours ago and I’ve sought medical advice.

So I was cooking a meat joint pulled it out to check and decided it needed a wee while longer, as I put it back in the marinade and juices splashed up and hit my bump about 4 inches under my boob. Immediately pulled clothing away from site grabbed tea towel and smothered in cold water.

The very top layer of skin immediately shrivelled. Husband pretty annoyed at me and I was in a complete state. Phoned 111 but was on hold for 20+ mins so called maternity triage Blush. Midwife was extremely nice and asked if this burn was anywhere else would I go to A&E; I said no. There no blisters and the skin peeled because it’s so taut. She told me just to keep an eye in movements and normal first aid for burns. Baby movement fine once I calmed down

FFS I’m so annoyed at myself. I’ve been religiously wearing an apron recently as I’ve not many clothes that are still comfy so been trying to keep them clean, except this time. Also I’ve completely avoided stretch marks and now I’ll have a lovely burn mark. And goes without saying I was completely irrationally freaking out about baby. I’ve also got a shiner on my knee from changing the bed, a bruise to n my foot from goodness knows where and a small burn in hand from the iron Confused.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s done similar? Why I am I even clumsier than normal?

I fell over on my front at around 36 weeks with DS1! I practically ran waddled to the walk-in centre and they graciously checked my urine before announcing there was no protein in it Hmm I was a bit more interested in foetal movements tbh... he was fine in any case.

You will be fine - really don't worry. It's not like your baby will be aware of it in any way! Just treat it as you would any other burn and keep an eye on it for signs of infection.

It’s just one of those things, why would your husband be annoyed with you? I slipped in the shower when heavily pregnant with ds1 and landed on my bump, my husband was concerned that baby and I were ok.

I also don't like the fact that your husband is annoyed with you. Tell him to make dinner from now on.

I burnt my bump on a hot oven tray when heavily pregnant. It's easy to forget how big your bump is and just misjudge things. Don't feel bad about it. Your husband has no right to be annoyed at you though! How exactly would that help?

BertieBotts · 09/02/2019 20:32

I totally did this when pregnant with DS1. I can't remember the exact circumstances but yes surface burn, of course you panic but the midwife is absolutely right, they are very well protected in there. A bash would be different but a burn is just uncomfortable on the surface.

I don't think I have a scar (I got all my stretchmarks in the last couple of days of pregnancy) but it was a bit sore to heal because the skin was so stretched.

Sorry, your husband was annoyed with you?
Hmm

Blondiecub0109 · 09/02/2019 20:37

He was annoyed because no less than 10 secs before he asked me if I needed help ... tbh he’s a good egg really he just can’t understand that I’m a complete klutz ( and was so even before pg) because he is frustratingly accident free. Yes he can do all the hot food handling (and ironing) from now on (he was already doing stuff like getting the ironing in and out and helping me in and out of bath etc)

Thank you for sharing your experiences - falling must have really scary at the time. I’ve been wearing walking shoes everywhere even just out to the car in the cold weather because I know I’m so accident prone.

Need to remember I’m pregnant, not made of porcelain, and as you say baby is well protected.

You're probably clumsier because your body shape is changing so quickly your spatial awareness is a bit off. It'll pass.

Sorry you burned your bump. It sounds sore!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 09/02/2019 20:41

This has brought back a memory... I managed to IRON my full term bump! The hot edge of the plate caught me, I just had no concept of where my body ended 😂

AuditAngel · 09/02/2019 20:44

I kept bumping mine into the hot kettle when reaching into the cupboard above for the coffee etc.
