Losing weight safely

So I am already overweight. I'm in the 12 stone zone and size 14.
I was trying to lose weight before getting pregnant.
I'm so worried the midwife is going to weigh me and be concerned.
What is the best way to lose weight?

Try slimming world, it's recommended by midwives.

Ahardma88 · 09/02/2019 17:47

I go to slimming world and I'm 7 months pregnant. Although they don't encourage you to lose weight outright it's more about making healthy choices.

Just make healthy choices and try and add a 30 minute walk in a day. That way you're not putting any stress on your body Smile

Slimming World- I started today at 13 weeks as don't want to put on loads of weight and to eat more healthy. Good luck with everything x

Thanks for the recommendations.
With slimming world im not too keen on them pushing all the processed food and sweeteners on to you. Do you think it's possible to eat it in a more natural way.
Do they welcome you there when you are pregnant and let you get weighed xxx

I've done slimming world from week 13, size 14 too. It's been great for me. I don't have much sweetener at all, I just drink heaps of water. We don't eat processed meals...the most processed we have is a reduced fat sausage now and again. I snack on veggies, fruit and yogurt. They have a plan specifically if you're pregnant. I've been very well welcomed and yes they weigh you :) they just check if you lose "too much" that your midwife is happy...I lost 8lb in 2 weeks and needed to get it signed by my midwife xx

@Babyno2mamabear thank you that sounds great to me then. I had a feeling it might be more focused on not putting on weight. I want to lose enough to be in a healthy bmi range. I notice people seem to panic when they hear you want to lose when your pregnant even if you are big.
I'm also veggie so I need to be careful to eat all the font things. Hopefully SW can support that x

Another one here in support of slimming world. I joined up at ten weeks, a size 14 and now at 33 weeks have only put on 9 pounds. I’m amazed tbh, as this is baby number 4 and I absolutely stacked it on with the others. I don’t eat sweetners or processed foods at all, just lots of fresh fruit and veggies alongside my meals. The meetings can be eye opening as there are people there who seem to go to extraordinary lengths to eat something ‘naughty’ made out of goodness knows what, but the plan itself is sound. I was horrendously sick in the first trimester and tbh I think it almost helped me to reset my appetite. I haven’t missed the puddings I was having almost every night with dh before I started, and I’m much more satisfied by the food I do have, I don’t have much urge to snack even at this late stage. There’s at least 3 other pregnant ladies at my group and they’re all doing really well too. I don’t know how much to expect to put on in these final few weeks as baby seems to have grown ridiculously in the last few days but I’m happy so far and I know that after my last births the excess weight I had put on really contributed to me feeling quite down so I’m hoping to not feel that way this time. Also looking forward to my certificate the first time I weigh in after the birth Grin

As your only 5 weeks pregnant. You may find you’ll lose some weight in the first trimester anyway. I was 6 weeks when morning sickness hit me.

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 28 weeks (now 37) and since starting the GD diet I’ve lost weight. It’s basically lower complex carb (so small portions of wholemeal carbs) with plenty of protein and good fats. I’ve also done slimming world and would be wary of all the “low fat” options they recommend as there is often lots of added sugar in those products and good fats (full fat dairy, nuts, avocado etc) are good for you and baby 👍🏻

I'm 10 weeks pregnant today and a target member at SW before getting pregnant. I'm vegetarian too and dairy intolerant. I find it very easy to follow a very healthy diet with SW and avoid processed foods/ sweeteners. SW really encourages healthy eating - some people just find ways to follow plan whilst eating rubbish.

Since getting pregnant I've gained weight due to nausea and tiredness (can only stomach beige foods) but if I wasn't going to SW it would defiantly be much worse. I'm hoping it will level out once I get into the next trimester.

My consultant has been a huge help; do talk to your local consultant and your MW if you're not sure. Good luck! x
