Hi. I'm 33+3 and I haven't had my flu vaccine and my whooping cough!! I'm freaking out because I haven't had them and scared of gettin sick or harming my baby. What am I suppose to do. I choose not to get them as everytime I get vaccines I get sick. But now I'm regretting not getting them.

If you've not got flu now, you're prob ok. Whooping cough can be given to your baby when born

@Reccy2018. I'm scared of getting it now though.

You can still get the whooping cough vaccination up until labour (although less effective the longer you leave it) and you should because it is highly effective in protecting your baby from developing whooping cough in the first few weeks of their life.

The immunity you get from the vaccine will pass to your baby through the placenta and provide passive protection for them until they are old enough to be routinely vaccinated against whooping cough at two months old. I took this from NHS website.

My colleague's baby had whooping cough when she was a baby and was seriously ill. This was years ago and she was one of the reasons why the vaccination is now offered.

Speak to your doctor or midwife asap.

Both vaccines cross the placenta and give your baby protection in those crucial first few weeks. I’d go and get vaccinated now.

@WoodyOak thank you for the advice. I have an appointment on Monday I'm going to mention it to the MW and see what she says. I'm more scared about the flu vaccine because I read last night that if u get the flu while pregnant it can kill you and your baby. As if my anxiety wasn't bad enough lol

My advice with vaccines personally is get any and all vaccines that you are able to.

Vaccines won't make you sick. If you get sick (cough cold etc) after getting a vaccine it is a coincidence.

A fever after a vaccine isn't getting sick either. It is your immune system doing its job and producing antibodies to attack the virus so you don't get sick if you do come into contact with it.

It doesn't make sense to be worried about getting flu and not getting the vaccine personally

Yes it can, that’s why you are advised to get the Flu vaccine. Neither of them are live vaccines, so as PP has said you can not get sick from them. Your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy. So you may get a cold anyway!!

Go and get both but especially the whooping cough . The antibodies you produce with the whooping cough vaccine will protect your baby until they’re old enough to have commenced and completed their vaccinations . If you deliver within 10 days of being vaccinated the benefit is lost .

Am I still able to get the flu vaccine? I thought u wouldn't get it past 33 weeks

You can have flu jab at any gestation

Bigonesmallone3 · 09/02/2019 17:15

Third baby and never had the flu jab.. I do however get the whooping cough and plan to sigh this pregnancy too
