All day queasiness - any tips for relieving?

Hi - I'm currently 6w1d pregnant following IVF. I am obviously delighted (and v v nervous, we have had multiple miscarriages before this). The thing is I am queasy ALL day. There is almost no let up at all. I have yet to be sick but I feel useless and awful! In some ways, given our history, I am grateful for it as it does give me hope that all is progressing ok, but it's beyond exhausting at the mo. I have a DS who is 5 and while I had a bit of queasy feelings on and off with him, it was nothing on this...
I know I'm lucky I'm not actually throwing up - eating some things seems to help briefly, but not for long and some things make it worse.
I'm totally unable to concentrate at work as I am distracted by this feeling all the time.
Has anyone who has had this constant sick feeling without being actually sick got any tips for what might help alleviate it?
Thanks

Congratulations! For me, fresh lemon squeezed into water really helped and (weirdly) prawn cocktail walkers crisps.

whatswithtodaytoday · 08/02/2019 07:42

Don't let your stomach get empty. I could only face crisps a lot of the time. Drink tons of water. And don't allow yourself to get too tired - I always felt way worse in the evening if I was tired, and towards the end of the week.

Mine lasted until about 18 weeks but definitely eased off after 14. I'm now 36 weeks and have started feeling queasy again, but nowhere near as bad as the first few weeks. You have my sympathies!

Thanks all - I am trying the 'don't let your stomach get empty' - which worked when I was pregnant with my DS, but this time doesn't seem to work so well...I've ordered some travel bands to see if they help - should arrive tomorrow 🤞.
I'm hoping it passes sooner than some of you have found! How did you cope?!
Only 'upside' is that I've gone right off galaxy chocolate - which is my usual vice!

For me, ginger was disgusting and travel bands didn't work. The following helped, but I did have to keep an array of different foods, flavours and stuff to hand as I kept going off things!
Mints, peppermint tea, sipping fluids as much as possible (could only drink very diluted cordial), bread sticks, crackers, rich tea biscuits, yoghurts, haribo star mix, cold fizzy cans of orange tango, ice lollies, ice cream, plain jacket potatoes, plain pasta.

2 things I also found very effective were resting (both physically and mentally) and distraction. I seemed to be much better if I was out of the house, at work, or doing odd jobs like tidying up or doing laundry.

Fresh air also worked really well, temporarily.

Good luck, congratulations and hope it passes soon!

Crossfitgirl · 08/02/2019 13:55

I also found that if I could stomach a cup of tea, that seemed to help. (? The cafffiene?) But then, the days I could stomach a cuppa tended to be less nauseous in general anyway, so maybe that was just coincidence lol.

Remmeber, it will pass eventually! Mine was only really bad for a couple of weeks before it started to get better x

peachgreen · 08/02/2019 14:05

I ate half a cracker every 45 minutes. It was horrendous, you have my sympathies.

peachgreen · 08/02/2019 14:06

Oh and sparkling water with lime helped settle my stomach better than still water.

Smurfy23 · 09/02/2019 01:39

I'm the same and found I just need to eat continuously! After a couple of weeks of having a great time on crisps and biscuits I've bought bags of fruit and healthy snacks to stop me gaining 10 stone in the first trimester. I'm sure everyone at work is why I've suddenly taken to over eating but it keeps the nausea at bay.

snoopy18 · 09/02/2019 03:00

I was similair during first trimester - felt sick all day long although didn’t vomit along with awful stomach cramps. Was grim but felt lucky to not vomit.

I snacked on dry crackers a lot & toast with bit of margarine on it. I also was eating a lot of apples and plums for some reason! Very much ate carby foods and subway veggie Pattie subway tasted like heaven when I could stomach something of flavour ha.

Ginger tea helped now and again albeit not much but worth a try. Fresh ginger not teabag stuff.

Jellybaby13 · 11/02/2019 18:15

@Hobbes39 did the travel bands work? I've recently started car sharing to work and I've realised that being a passenger on the commute to and from work makes the nausea 10 times worse!!! Sad

Hobbes39 · 11/02/2019 18:24

@Jellybaby13 - sadly no! They don't seem to have helped...
I seem to be better if I avoid milk so I'm having toast for breakfast rather than cereal and no milk in my tea... plus I've found gallons of elderflower cordial helps too - could just be the keeping hydrated, but it's someone not just the water...
I still feel queasy a lot - mostly mid afternoon - so while the above have helped a bit, it's not much. I was scared silly the other morning as I didn't feel queasy at all for about 2 hours and panicked that it all must be going wrong... so to be honest while this is exhausting it is comforting me slightly until I get to my 7 week scan (Wednesday) which can't come soon enough - things have always gone wrong for me at this stage, so I'm desperate to know it's all alright...

I can recommend NOT going on a cruise at 5+5!! We sailed on Tuesday and have had a very rough transatlantic crossing, are at least 7 hours behind schedule so our morning arrival in Bermuda is now a late afternoon one - thankfully we’re there overnight!! I can’t tell what is morning sickness and what’s the sea - am wearing sea bands and don’t want to take them off in case they’re helping things be not quite so bad!!

BlitheringIdiots · 12/02/2019 00:05

Oh and I found that a travel
Band on both wrists did nothing but one only on worked!

Justus22 · 12/02/2019 14:10

I got it a bit later than you around 7/8 weeks and it's lasted until 20 weeks although it's eased up in the last 2. I feel for you it's the worst. I have no amazing remedies but hang on in there, some feel better by 13 weeks. I slept a lot as worst at night. Crackers and cheese helped a little. Fruit juice as well strangely. Sugar aggravated it more but I fancied a lot of sweet things as my mouth was dry and had a dreadful taste constantly. Apples and bananas. I actually could eat in small bits this time despite throwing up 7-10 times per day and having constant nausea, I've had it where not even water stayed down with my first baby so I'd just try what you fancy, little and often and don't over exert yourself. Fingers crossed you're one of the lucky ones who stops feeling rough by the end of this trimester. Congratulations. Xxxxx

NeverHadANickname · 12/02/2019 14:26

I feel terrible too 🤢 the only things that sometimes help are eating crackers regularly and also ice cold water and sucking on ice. Usually can't stand really cold drinks so unusual for me. Definitely think I'm dehydrated though because some days it's a struggle to even think about drinking water.

Hobbes39 · 13/02/2019 13:58

Just to say - had a scan today at 7w due to this being IVF pregnancy and previous miscarriages... no wonder I've been feeling ropey - it's TWINS! Shock

NeverHadANickname · 13/02/2019 15:30

Oh my goodness congratulations! We always joke that ours will be twins because I'm feeling so rough.

Justus22 · 13/02/2019 21:01

Wow, congratulations ❤️❤️

Rememberallball · 14/02/2019 00:53

@Hobbes39, congratulations. I also had my post IVF viability scan today and will be 7 weeks tomorrow. Like you it confirmed twins measuring exactly on date!!

Racecardriver · 14/02/2019 09:43

Glass of water with a good amount of lemon juice. Best cure for nausea I can think of.

Hobbes39 · 14/02/2019 10:42

Wow, congratulations @Rememberallball ! How are you feeling about it? I'm delighted but terrified! Do you have any other DC?
Hope you have a happy & healthy 30+ weeks! X

Hi @Hobbes39.

This will be my first (and second) but DH has adultchildren already and we have 2 grandchildren aged 6 & almost 2 plus they are expecting another a few days ahead of my due date but, now with it being twins, I’m more likely to get there first.

We’re really excited - still a bit disbelieving even though we knew it was a distinct possibility because of the double embryo transfer as well as really high beta hCG results as early as 7dpt!!
