Being induced and had pessary and now 2 gels so being assessed but if baby hasn't come by tomorrow I'll be sent home 😫

Why will they send you home? Surely if you are being induced the baby needs to come out? I had 2 pessaries and not much happened. My cervix was open just enough and the most experienced midwife was brought in to break my waters and then I was put on the drip.

Has nothing happened at all for you? What are they suggesting to do next? Apart from go home!

So sorry, it's horrible feeling you are being messed about. Hope you have your baby very soon.

Joinourclub · 06/02/2019 19:14

Sent home?! Why are you being induced? When the pessary failed to bring on labour for me, I ended up having my waters broken with a long hook and then going on the drip. It was that or a c section.

Tinyteatime · 06/02/2019 19:14

Why sent home? At my hospital once they start any type of induction they said they have to see it through until the end. So after failed pessary I was straight onto the drip. Is that not an option?

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 06/02/2019 19:15

That sounds stressful ☹️ Surely if the induction fails they still need to get the baby out! Wouldn’t a section be the next step?

babyp160 · 06/02/2019 19:39

I have a brutal midwife on today. Feeling a bit of a failure to be honest. I walked 4 miles today in agony to try and get things moving and haven't sat in bed once.

I have mild contractions but only when I walk.

She said they send me home and try the process again in a few days.

Being induced for movement issues for baby. He is also a large baby.

I'm 38 weeks.

Bit of a frustrated post I write whilst crying in the bath!!!

AHH that's awful bubba will come hang on in there. you could always suggest C sec you know if your finding things stressful.
Fingers crossed for you

ChikiTIKI · 06/02/2019 19:48

You can have a c section if you want one. Might be the best option if concerned about movements? Hope it works out ok xxxx

MissMooMoo · 06/02/2019 20:20

My water broke on its own but labour did not start naturally.
I had the gel which didn't work so finally was induced with the drip but needed an EMCS in the end as ds really had no desire to be born.
Goodluck

Farmerswifey12 · 06/02/2019 20:25

My local maternity unit do give a break between pessaries of 24 hours, so you have 3 every 6 hours, and then if those 3 don't work, you have a break of 24 hours and then the process starts again . But they don't send you home, you are monitored in the hospital. I'm really shocked they are sending you home if you have reduced movements? I definately wouldn't be happy about that and would be requesting to stay in to be monitored!

This probably won’t be what you want to hear... but I was induced at 38 weeks due to gestational diabetes. Every attempt seemed to fail until finally I was put onto the drip after 6 days of staying in the hospital. I knew I wanted an epidural anyway so they kindly did that at the same time, which I was grateful for as I went into labour after my waters were broken and the drip was put in. I was in labour (though blissfully unaware of pain due to the epidural...win!) for 12 hours. At which point they found out it had stalled and I had only dialated 2cm. I was asked if I wanted to continue and see what happens, but at this point I was a total wreck after being stuck in the hospital so long so I went for c section - which the midwives had kept trying to put me off throughout the process.

It was great. I was a bit sick afterwards (I lost quite a bit of blood and had to be pumped full of quite a lot of drugs) but the actual op wasn’t bad and baby was there. Next time, I’m going for a CS straight away as it was a hell of a lot less stressful.

The only thing I will add, is IF it comes to that for you - make sure you never miss your pain meds. Generally I didn’t find moving around and stuff half as bad as I thought I would, except for the time I missed a dose a few days later and my god did tha sting 😂

MissMoodyMoo · 06/02/2019 20:48

DO NOT let them send you home!!! Stand your ground and protect yourself and your baby!

babyp160 · 06/02/2019 21:45

Thanks everyone. Pretty strong contractions in my back the last hour or so so hoping it's not a false alarm xx

You say your baby is big? How big? What's the estimated weight/percentile? Why haven't they offered you a c-section if baby is big?

babyp160 · 07/02/2019 05:03

95th percentile but I'm 38 weeks so didn't want him at term. Was predicted 6lb 4? At 33 weeks

somethingfromnothing · 07/02/2019 05:12

Hope you are doing okay. I’m being induced for similar reasons on Friday. Is this your first pregnancy?

EyeDrops · 07/02/2019 05:44

No further advice besides stand your ground, and if you feel it's an option for you consider asking about c-section. I'm four days post caesarean after labour failed to progress - due to size of baby at over 10lb, which I wish they'd been able to figure out sooner!!

thirdlittlepig · 07/02/2019 05:58

If you get put on the drip - please ask for the epidural FIRST. Especially if your baby might be back to back and large. It's much more daunting having the epidural done while experiencing stronger contractions. Wishing you and your baby all the best, OP

babyp160 · 07/02/2019 08:02

Yes first baby.

Ok epidural first for sure!

OP posts:
MissMooMoo · 07/02/2019 21:59

Echo what others have said about epidural at the same time they start the drip.
I asked for one when they started the drip and had an OB come see me who said "sometimes its good to see how baby copes with contractions without the epidural"
Ok I said blissfully unaware.
8 hours later with just gas and air and I had a wonderful midwife who asked me if I needed an epidural and personally went to go get the man back to do it!

Joinourclub · 07/02/2019 22:16

I didn’t have an epidural when I had the drip. My labour was quick and the pain was bearable.

jackstini · 07/02/2019 22:54

Had show on a Tuesday and then dripped meconium so had to go into hospital. 2 pessaries, then 18 hours on induction drip (I was 11 days overdue)
Had waters broken with the hook but never got past 2cm dilated and ended up with CS

Go with the flow but don't go home if you are mid induction and contracting

Whichever way and whatever time baby comes - it's worth it Smile
