Hi looking for advise or reassurance I'm currently 8 weeks pregnant after 4 previous early miscarriages and have just had a phone call from my GP to say my blood test results have come back and are high for APS and I will be referred to a gynaecologist. I haven't been told how long this will be or what I can do in the meantime to help this pregnancy. I have been reading online and it says I should be on low does aspirin and having daily herapin injections. I have tried ringing midwife, hospital and GP and no one seems to be able to give me any answers. Has anyone experienced this or has had this diagnosis? Any information would be greatly appreciated x

You can get the aspirin from boots. It's the low dose one (75mg)?? I'd be starting on that if I were you because there is no evidence to say it can do harm.

The only other thing you can do is keep hounding for fastest referral possible. Is going private an option?

I did think about taking it but wasn't sure if it was safe.. I wouldn't know where to start with going private but could be an option x

I was diagnosed with APS after several miscarriages. I was advised to take 75mg dispersible aspirin, high dose folic acid and heparin injections if pregnancy was confirmed.

I was 43 when I was diagnosed. I stayed on the aspirin continuously for several years just in case but didn't get pregnant again anyway so I don't know if it would have helped.

How long is it until your follow up? If you know you have no allergy to aspirin then it may be worth starting on it. If you have never taken aspirin and don't know if you react to it then it may not be worth the risk.

Pregnacy has been confirmed with an early private scan at 6 weeks 4 days we seen a nice strong heart beat. I haven't been told any more information on a follow up which is why I'm worrying if they leave it any longer then I might loose this baby and we have never gotten this far with a pregnacy before. I have just taken some low does aspirin so hopefully this will help until we can be seen by a professional x

Hi, I don’t have APS but I took low dose aspirin when I was pregnant with my DD. Unless there is something in your medical history that means aspirin is not safe for you I would take it. Lots of people take it after miscarriages to see if it helps. Can you speak to your GP tomorrow to confirm?

sprinkleofhope · 06/02/2019 19:41

Yes will deffo start taking it but hopefully be able to see a GP to confirm and make sure I'm taking the right does x

Hi and congrats on the pregnancy! I have lupus and was tested for APS (occurs in 30% of lupus patients). Mine was negative though I had two previous MCs so I was put on a blood thinning regime just to be safe. You're lucky they found it early as it's fairly hard to get the test and the treatment is safe and very effective. I took 100mg aspirin daily until 36 weeks, and Clexane injections until 13 weeks. Baby is now 10 months and snoozing upstairs.

In your position I would get started on low-dose aspirin ASAP. I think you can get it from most places without a prescription. Unless you have an allergy against aspirin, this is very safe and some doctors actually recommend it in all first pregnancies to prevent pre-eclampsia (it improves the blood vessel formation in the placenta in the first trimester which prevents complications in the third trimester).

Then try to find a doctor as soon as you can for the injection prescription. Clexane/Lovenox is enoxaparin, not heparin. I think that's more commonly used now in pregnancies.
