Went over huge pothole - 16 weeks pg and worried

Hi ladies,
I’m just looking for reassurance and advice. We were driving home this evening and the satnav directed us down this dark B road. It’s not a road we were familiar with and we ended up hitting a huge pothole on my side of the car. It really jarred when we hit it.

Should I be worried? I’ve not had cramps but have been getting the occasional sharp twinge in my pelvic/lower abdominal region. We got home a couple of hours ago and I’m still getting them every 10 mins :(.

I’m 16 weeks pregnant tomorrow and this is my first baby so I don’t know what is ok and what isn’t. I can’t yet feel the baby move, so I can’t base anything on that.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks!

Going over a pothole can't cause a miscarriage. If you are having pain, it will be totally unrelated.

I'm sure you will be absolutely fine but maybe contact your midwife tomorrow to put your mind at ease x

I have to bump over massive potholes every day to get up and down our lane. Wasn't very comfortable during pregnancies but did no harm at all.

Second pregnancy I usually had a toddler using me as a space hopper most of the day too. Babies are very well protected in your womb.

Yep!

You'll be fine OP

I'm sure it's fine. I live in the land of potholes and concrete roads (you know, the ones that make the whole car shake every metre you travel) and various other road horrors. Have been on all manner of bumpy roads etc. As others have said, baby is well cushioned in there. I also had loads of cramps etc in those first few weeks/months. Even now at 22+2 I still get the odd pang. It's all the lovely growing pains. Good luck!
